Gallbladder Removal Success Story! I Finally feel better!!!

Posted , 47 users are following.

Let me start out by saying DO NOT LISTEN TO ALL OF THESE NEGATIVE POSTS ON HERE!

The internet says that Gallbladder surgery is the most COMMON surgery in todays world and about 700,000 people in the United states have their gallbladder taken out each year. So please do not let a couple of hundred negative posts on the internet scare you away from doing something that could change your life for the better!

People who have a positive outcome do not post their results, they are too busy enjoying their life now that they feel better!

For 10 years I suffered and I finally hit my breaking point. The Gallbladder surgery was the first surgery I ever had so just like many of you, I was on these websites every chance I got searching for a reason to believe this was my answer and that I was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, all I found were all these horror stories and people with complications.

My CT scan, Ultrasound, Labs etc all came back fine. I had no gallstones. My Hida scan was 33%, which as many of you know, can be a tricky number when it comes to a Doctor believing that the gallbladder is the problem. Especially in my case where symptoms were not typical gallbladder symptoms. Pain was not always on the right side, it was mostly in the center above my ribs, my pain was not always after a fatty meal, it was with EVERY meal. I did not have a ton of heartburn. IBS medications, both prescription and over the counter, natural supplements, food/ingredient elimination…it helped, but only temporarily.  But I know my body, and their answers weren’t good enough for me.

I finally decided to see a surgeon for a second opinion, and then the option was up to me. It took me 2 months to decide that I was going for it. I read every single article online that you can find that relates to gallbladder removal, and every single post on these forum websites, both good and bad.

I am now just about 3 months post op and I feel amazing. Of course you have to watch what you eat now and avoid certain foods, but to be honest, it’s all stuff you’re used to by now if you’ve suffered stomach issues before getting your gallbladder out. My gallbladder was covered in scar tissue when they removed it, with some cholesterolosis. One thing I noticed after the surgery is that the dull horrible pain that I had ALWAYS felt in my stomach is now gone.  When you feel that way for THAT long, it almost feels weird NOT to feel like that anymore. But I felt so relieved. I still do. Don’t get me wrong, I still have days where I feel a bit bloated and I’m still learning what I’m sensitive to, but it’s a different kind of bloat, and the blah feeling I sometimes get now would not even come close to what I felt before the surgery.

I’m all for the questions, so please ask. Just remember that just because you don’t have “classic gallbladder symptoms” doesn’t mean its not your gallbladder!

Anyway,I think I must take the risk since we all have different body. I can't live in pain all the time and don't no what problems this might cause me. Having all sorts of strange symptoms .

I am having open surgery .

    Hi, I agree.

I have just posted my great outcome story as an antidote to the poor outcome stories.

Frankly, they frightened me into almost not going ahead..

More of us should come out!

Hi Everybody, I had mine out 13th October and feel not bad except now I have pain in my kidney region so think I've possibly a kidney stone or infection.

I did pass a stone (kidney) back in May and only last Thursday got discharged from the Urologist.

Last night the pain in my lower back, kidney region was quite bad and I just wondered if any of you also had kidney stones as I read that gallbladder issues and kidney stones can go side by side

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It has made me feel so much better about going into this.

My entire life has been filled with stomach issues. For the past 3 years we didn’t know if I could go out to movies or parties or even just to go ride my horse navies I’d be sick. Because of all this I decided to cut down my diet to very bland foods and things that settled while when they did. I am very much like you with your symptoms. It wasn’t just after fatty meals but every meal. It’s to the point that I refuse to eat when we go out places. My pain was never really just on the right side or at all it was very much everywhere. I spent the past few years being rushed to the ER just to have them tell us nothing was wrong and send me home.

After years of trying to find out what was wrong just yesterday we were told my gallbladder is only functioning at 4%. I’m only 16. This has been my entire life and I’m so happy I know what’s wrong. Today we met my surgeon and thankfully due to some amazing family connections I’m having my surgery tomorrow morning.

I have a high anxiety disorder and I just started to freak out so I started to look at peoples story and yours has helped me find so much comfort. I’m really thankful for finding your story and that you were kind enough to share it. Thank you for putting my mind at ease and I hope your recovery is still going up and great!

I too read all the negative posts on gallbladder removal. I've been on acid reflux meds for 8 yrs. Had an attack on Wed 11/22/17 before Thanksgiving. Was sick for month. Ultrasound normal. HIDA scan showed 96% ejection fraction on drinking fatty drink. And only took like 5 min. For pain to start. I just had my gallbladder out on 12/28/17. It's been 5 days. Only took 3 pain pills day of surgery and ibuprofen for 2 days. The biggest pain was in my right shoulder due to the gas added during surgery.

By day 3 that was gone. Heat also helped it and walking around moving arms. I feel great. No sickness or pain after eating. And all food made me sick before surgery. I'm still on acid reflux meds but was hoping I can get off them one day. I'm so glad Im better. I recommend the surgery.

      Glad you feel better Karen.

I'm over two months out from gallbladder surgery. I just had some pain for a few weeks then it settled. Then it seemed to travel to my right breast and gave me discomfort for weeks. It was hard to tell if it was under the breast /ribs or in the breast, but because I have a small cyst too I did panic and have booked to see the doctor.

I think I started on some bad fats too early as I got awful pains where gallbladder was for weeks also and now take digestive enzymes.

My friend took a year to feel better but others just months. We are all different.

Hope you get to come off the acid meds. I just take Gaviscon advanced as and when I need it

I had semi-annual to annual gallbladder attacks for over a decade.  Finally, this past December I made the decision to have it removed.  When it was over, I felt like a fool for waiting so long.  I had some very large stones which were eroding the organ from the inside out.  Had I waited longer, who knows what could have happened.  My body adjusted to the gallbladder removal very quickly and I feel great.  My advice is to find the best, most experienced surgeon you can get, even though it's a common surgery, and get that thing out.  Take care of yourself pre-op and post-op and don't try to go down the holistic path, especially if you have stones.  Also, remember that even though they send you home very quickly, you had major surgery.  So, relax and let yourself heal.

So nice to hear a good story thank you. I had crippling pain 8 yrs ago and refused gallbladder surgery because of all the horror stories you see on line. A couple of years ago I started suffering form palpitations and the drs ruled out my heart and put it down to my gallbladder acting up (I had recently lost 3 st at the time). I was referred to a gastroenterologist again and it took me 2 yrs to agree to get it taken out. I kept thinking I'm doing fine I keep to a low fat diet and exercise it so it doesn't give me pain. But I always had that niggling feeling that it would come back and I remember the nights sitting on the bathroom floor sweating and dry retching from the pain . So I had the surgery last Wednesday February 7th 7 days ago. I didn't react well to the anaesthetic but I'm doing ok not in a huge amount of pain, eating a low fat bland diet still and keeping my meals small. My BM are there but different than before more solid and not as big but I can live with that.

From reading on line I keep expecting something bad to happen but you have given me hope that I don't need to worry thank you. ??

Hey Erika, your story is really starting to make me worry less. My anxiety is through the roof because I have been in and out of the doctors the last week. They said I don’t have gallstones from the looks at it from the bedside ultrasound but I have a repeat ultrasound and a HIDA scan coming up this week. I can’t wait for some answers . I just want to feel better . I’m so scared but yet so excited to get it over with .

Hello I see this post is a little bit older but I wanted to respond in hopes that my experience might help someone else I too have had abdominal pain mostly left-sided off and on for the past 5 years I started getting severe pain about 7 months ago since then I've had an endoscopy colonoscopy another endoscopy numerous ultrasound/ CT scans a HIDA scan and blood work which has all been normal time and again I was so frustrated I was nauseated all the time vomiting sometimes felt terrible no energy and a persistent pain in my upper belly the doctor just kept putting me on proton pump inhibitors for gastritis which wasn't making any difference finally I want to see a surgeon and I had surgery yesterday they removed my gallbladder it was full of adhesions and scars I cannot begin to tell you how different I feel today that gnawing pain in my left upper abdomen is gone. there is pain from the surgery but it is nothing compared to the pain that I've had for the past 9 months my doctor showed me a picture of my gallbladder and it was most definitely in need of coming out I share this with anybody who's going through this and tell you to not give up and feel free to share my story with your doctors go to a surgeon who has years of experience who has seen people feel so much better after their gallbladders come out- despite all normal tests. It's a frustrating process but don't give up! Wanted to share my success story.

Sheila! I so needed to hear your story. My gallbladder is “overactive” and most medical professionals don’t been it can overactive (ejection fraction 91%)!!! I have the symptoms as you and an scheduled for surgery next week. I’m really scared because I’m supposedly normal but this is my last opinion and I just want to be better again. I have a two year old and he needs his mama again!

Did you ever have nausea,  Erica? Before and/or after your surgery?

I too wanted to post my positive Gallbladder removal surgery, all you read are the horror stories. I started having problems August 2017 an went through GI doctors who ordered every test an all came back “within normal range” no stones nothing yet I was literally in pain anytime I ate, fought constant nausea an stomach bloat looked like I was 9 mths pregnant, weight gain which was fluid then lost a lot of weight because I couldn’t eat.  I thank god for my primary care doctor who said enough is enough I’m sending you to a surgeon, because even though all those test were normal or nothing found all my enzymes were high, AST, ALT Alkaline phosphates an common bile duct was enlarged so he said were missing something. The surgeon looked everything over an said let’s take it out all your symptoms point to gallbladder problems. I was put on antibiotics a week before surgery to calm it down if there was a problem not being seen. I went for surgery an it was done laparoscopic an he said my gallbladder was swollen an inflamed with lesions an this was after a week on antibiotics. Listen to your body, I think so many people feel like they are crazy when you know your body better than anyone. I’m 6 days post op, an I feel great! The first 24 hours is rough because of the gas pain but I took mylanta which helped a lot! I have 4 1” incisions that we’re stitched inside an glued outside mild bruising an soreness but I have eaten anything I want with no side effects thus far, I was warned for up to 8mths I could have bathroom issues when eating certain foods but I had cut them out so nothing thus far. I just wanted to post a success story so others wouldn’t just read the negative effects of the surgery, I believe these individuals have other underlying issues an involve more things than the gallbladder. I’m hear to say listen to yourself, don’t be second guessed, find a doctor who will listen. It can be a positive outcome not all bad. My surgeon said two weeks recovery but most people are almost back to normal feeling after a week but you are still sore inside a little an will feel it if you do to much to soon. God bless anyone going through it, it’s horrible an miserable when you have gallbladder problems an are waiting to find out what is going on. On a side note I will say my tech who did my HIDA scan told me he sees this all the time, everything is normal an in the end patient gets it removed an it’s diseased.
