Gallbladder remove now getting hair loss.

In November I was admitted to hospital, a gallstone had got stuck in my bile duct, which they were unable to remove so put a stent in and sent me home after 8 days in hospital.

Two weeks later i was admitted again, they wanted to do an ercp, but stalled on that, and i ended up with signs of sepsis, elevated heart rate, high temperature, so they did emergency surgery, and left me with a drain in my stomach as they left the one in the bile duct. 11 days in hospital as I had to finish the 5 day course of tazacin. Less than a week later and i was then on two lots of antbiotics for an infection in the drain site.

The drain came out at then end of Jan, and the stone was removed at the start of Feb. I feel fine in myself but over the last few weeks my hair is falling out by the handful. Is this normal and how long will it last?

Thanks

That is a LOT to go through so I'd guess it could be a reaction to it. My only experience is gallstones and not been treated yet, but I have just today been noticing more hair loss and thinning eyebows after months of feeling unwell and no appetite waiting for op. Poor fat soluble vitamin absorption and fats metabolism may also be not helping. Thyroid can affect hair but my last blood test showed no problem there, I don't know if you have any issues with yours. Might be worth asking for a blood test.

I would get a blood test. A friend just had massive hair loss and she was low on vitamin b and D. she needed to eat more red meat and go out in the sun. Could also be a thyroid problem. Also if you have lost weight fast your hair can react funny to it.

Has anything else changed¿ diet etc

Yes, short of Vit D here and on supplement but no change yet, maybe sleep a little better.

OMG, you've really been thru it.  I don't know where you live, but here in the US, I think the first thing they would've done was to "yank" the gall bladder.  So am surprised that they did the stent.  Personally, I don't want my gall bladder out and if they can put a stent in so the I can pass the stones, Terrific.  I do think that because of all of this, that's why the hair is falling out.  AND, God you never know just what medications cause it too.  Good luck to you.

That has happened to me before.  A few things can cause hair loss like the other folk have said.  But also stress of what you've been through and the operations could be a factor.  Also, you could be anaemic and need iron tablets.  Check it out.  Good luck.
