Gallbladder removed and Dr also removed lymph node

I had my gallbladder removed two days ago and when I talked to the surgeon's office yesterday the nurse mentioned that he also removed a lymph node that turned out to be  benign. The only explanation could be that they suspected cancer right? I hate to jump to conclusions but I really can't think of another reason why they would do that. Luckily it is benign... But what if the cancer was only in the gallbladder? They would have told me by now right?  Trying not to stress out. Can anyone give me any insight? Thanks!

I'm so sorry you're going through this! In my mind this nurse's remark was completely thoughtless.  You should not have been informed of this except by your doctor.  It is difficult to tell what happened because you probably haven't been given a copy of the surgical report--or a complete result of any pathology done on your gallbladder, if any was done.

I suggest you call the doctor's office, and get an appointment to discuss the removal of the lymph node and the biopsy of any other tissue including the gallbladder. He can discuss this and put your fears to rest.  This happened to me once.  What some medical people believe is just "cocktail conversation" can scare the rest of us to death. xx

Try not to stress and see what the Dr says when you see them.  Thats not the sort of thing that should be mentioned to you in general conversation!

Just wanted to update. I saw my surgeon today and he said the lymph node was attached to the duct or something so it came out along with the gallbladder, and it's standard procedure to test it for cancer. Phew. Big relief. Thanks for your replies!
