Gallbladder Surgery

Hello All! I'm due to have my gallbladder removed on Wednesday morning. Feeling very nervous about the whole thing. I've heard some really bad things about after surgery. So, I'm not exactly sure what to expect. I'm having mine removed because I have stones and the lining of my gallbladder has begun to thicken (not sure what that means) Just know that I want the pain to be gone. If anyone has any insight to share I'd def appreciate it.

Hello all! Just wanted to see if anyone that has had their gallbladder removed have had any issues with diarrea...I can't seem to eat anything without it going right thru me sad I've been doing some research on IBS and I think I may have had it for a long time. ( haven't gone to the doctor yet) I'm wondering if anyone has tried Questran ( Cholestyramine

      Hi, Jackie!

I have bile salt malobsorption.  I had it before I had my gallbladder out and I REALLY had it after I had my gallbladder out in 2009.

I have taken cholestyramine since then, one packet every night before bed.  It works pretty well, though when I'm nervous and upset I use immodium, too.

One thing you have to be mindful about is that the drug binds to everything, so if you are taking any types of medications you need to take them an hour or more before you take the cholestyramine.

      Good luck!

hi lynda i so know how you feel i also have gallstones and might have some stuck in a bile duct which is also now effecting my liver.Im also on a emergency list for gallbladder to be taken out so hopefully will get a date very soon. I so know what you mean by just wanting the pain to be over mine is all the time and i have so many symptoms i have wrote alot of posts about it if you would like to read them it might help. I also like yourself was so scared of the surgery as i had seen so many bad stories of people still feeling in pain after but when i came to this site i wrote a post about how scared i was and there was lots of people that are now feeling better then they ever did and the pain is gone and they can now eat what they like. I think it all depends on the person and how they recover. I hope your surgery goes well and keep us updated smile goodluck from carmella

Hi. I'm having mine out too and becuase I was just reading so much negativity and possible post surgery problems, I put a message up on my facebook page asking if anyone I knew had had the surgery. i had a few replies from friends but a lot more from friends of friends....which was good becuase they weren't trying to soften the blow. They all said that they didn't regret it and were so happy to be finally free of all the symptoms. Nearly all of them were relieved when they were told by their surgeons that their gallbladders were either about to rupture or calcified......so basically, they had made the right decision. I think the problem is that when things do go wrong (apparently about 10%) then it's all over the net. When things go right, patients just get on with their lives and don't post. I wish you all the best. I'm sure, really, you will be absolutely fine.
