GALLBLADDER SYMPTOMS BUT ALL TESTS NORMAL - CAN ANYONE RELATE?

I've been experiencing pain in my upper mid / upper right abdominal area for several months that has slowly gotten worse over time. The pain also radiates around to my back and seems to be worse after eating and while I'm laying down. I've noticed I've been burping more frequently and my stools seem to have changed as well. I've gone through so many different tests that all seem to come back normal and I've even been to the ER twice with no answers upon leaving.

I've had blood work (twice), an abdominal ultrasound, two abdominal CT scans (with and without contrast), CCK Hida Scan (66% ejection fraction) MRCP, upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. All results are normal but I keep feeling worse and worse. I have a follow up appointment with my General Surgeon in a week and I think he wants to go the route of taking out my gallbladder although I'm a little hesitant to do that without any concrete evidence that my gallbladder is actually the cause of all the pain.

Can anyone relate to my situation? I am a 33 year old female and haven't had any major health concerns in the past so these last few months have been really scary and frustrating at the same time. I'm thankful for the normal tests but also worried because I know something isn't right...

Any feedback / encouragement would be greatly appreciated...

    Hi Lindsay

My pain got worse over the years and eventually i ended up with very bad indigestion and burping and a few episodes of attending at A&E. .i had numerous blood tests and a few ultrasounds over the years but as i had no gallstones they just said it was not gallbladder related but likely IBS. Eventually though a gp took it more seriously and i was sent for an endoscopy, an appointment with a consultant and then a HIDA scan which showed my gallbladder wasn't functioning and was inflammed so was recommended for removal... was diagnosed with biliary dyskinesia.

I felt my symptoms just progressed over the years.. i have had a few episodes of pain since which the consultant said may happen (feels like spasms) and some continuing indigestion but overall i'm better. I do wonder what I would be like though if my gallbladder had been identified as the cause and removed a lot sooner.

Not sure if that all helps but hopefully your surgeon can advise and you make the right decision for you.

Thank you for sharing, Suzanne. I'm glad you finally got to the bottom of it and seem to be doing better. I already had the Hida Scan which showed my gallbladder was functioning within the normal range, although my surgeon and a few other doctors said that sometimes all the tests can be normal and the gallbladder can still be the cause. Did they ever do a Hida Scan earlier for you that was normal or just the one that showed it wasn't functioning? I have an appointment with a new gastroenterologist on 12/15 and plan to request an endoscopic ultrasound since that is pretty much the only test I haven't had done yet.
