Gallstone attacks, only 24. How many tests do I need? When will things change? Everyday life/work?

A little long so I put my questions in bold.

The attacks started 2 months ago. The typical pain in the night with horrible vomiting. I went to see an out of hours GP right after the second night, who suspected gallstones. It's taken 2 months and today I finally had an ultrasound. Leading up to that I've had to wait for another GP to see me, wait for a blood test and so on. They keep sending me to different places for these tests which isn't comforting.

There's so much back and forth to get anything done. I'm meant to be on a job for 4 months starting next month, so I won't be near my GP. Everything is going so slow, what am I mean to do?

This won't be resolved before the jobs starts anymore.

I have an endoscopy coming up 3 days before the job. I'm not looking forward to it.

When I had the ultrasound scan today the technician wouldn't tell me anything and I had to wait for my GP to call me. Thankfully he called me the same day!

Why do they keep sending me to places and not communicating then and there? I was at the hospital that first time to see a GP and he said he couldn't do a scan there though he suspected stones. Then 2 months later they send me to the hospital for a scan. It's crazy and so inefficient. It makes me think I should go to A&E to get results during an attack. The only reason I haven't (even though 111 told me to) is because it's far away and I'm sure if I went I'd have to wait so long during the night, the attack would be over. Is it better to go to A&E and get things over with?

Well, my GP said today he will refer me to the hospital for more tests (plus the endoscopy is coming up too). What other tests are there? How much process is there before they attempt to resolve this?

I'm not keen on surgery, I heard there is medication to dissolve the stones, but I don't know how bad it is. I wish they would have shown me the ultrasound pictures and talked to me about them. I was in pain when they did the scan. I know I should have said something then and there, but they didn't communicate. I thought the pain might be normal, but afterwards I read this might be sign things are going badly around there.

It's been 2 months. If my gallstones really are getting worse (infection) and I'm inflamed during the day, how much time can pass before it gets real bad?

The job I'm going on serves breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. Sounds nice, but often you are served chips with something fried or cheese pie. There is no way to supply your own food, because it's in remote locations. I was hoping things could be resolved before I go on this job, but it's too late now. I'm really scared of having an attack at work and losing the job. Will I be okay with my little Gaviscon to fall back on? Advice?
