Gash in leg, now looks super infected

Exactly two weeks ago I fell into an open manhole and received a large gash on the front of my leg (right where the tibia is). I went directly to urgent care an hour after and got the wound cleaned, three staples put into my leg, and a tetanus shot.
Following the visit, i kept the bandage on for 2 days, took it off on the third, cleaned it with soap and water, put some ointment on it (non-antibacterial) and redressed it.
On the 4th day I change bandages and noticed that the scab was seemingly dissolved by the ointment and the wound looked fresh. I cleaned and redressed it.
For the rest of the week so wound didn't seem like it was healing and I started to notice signs of infection. there was redness swelling and discharge / pus coming from the wound.
I went back to the doctor and he put me on antibiotics (cephalexin).
yesterday and today the wound looked very infected. today especially; my skin looks much lighter/ pink around the wound and there is still no scabbing forming where the majority of the wound is. it is still discharging as well.
I I called my doctor today and he's putting me on to stronger antibiotics starting tomorrow. I'm worried because I've been getting contradicting information on how to care for the wound (keeping it dry versus putting bacitracin / Neosporin on it versus dressing it versus keeping it open).
I am looking for another opinion as it's not looking good, has anyone ever seen a wound like this and can't offer any advice?

Has anyone seen this since your visit to urgent care? Do you still have the staples in?
