Hi all,
Im 4.5 stone over weight and im looking into getting a gastric band,
i may sound drastic but i have tried eveything and i cant seem to get anywhere, all i think about is food and weight it takes over my life and i have had enough,
Anyone on here had a gastric band and how has it changed things for you? are you happy you did it or do you regret it?

The time up to your op will fly by!
I'm feeling gooooooood! No regrets as of yet! I've got my first fill on Friday so I'm very nervous!

My fill will be 4 weeks post op!
Depends what your dietician recommends you should eat!
For week 1 for me it was just soup, yoghurts, angel delight and fruit juice etc! Make sure you keep your protein and fibre up! I was recommended benefibre powder and you just add it to your drink and can't taste anything, I found this online! It helps with any toilet issues you may have, if you know what I mean!!!!!
Week 2 was much the same but I had mashed potato or a 1 egg omelette and similar things!
Week 3-4 is feeling more normal, shepherds pie, fish, crackers and soft cheese/pate, boiled eggs, that sort of thing!
I found the trapped wind in my chest really painful! For me it lasted 3-4 days and was very intense but it does go, just keep burping!!
Xx

Good luck for tomorrow! You never know you may be seen earlier!
Your be surprised how unhungry you will be, you will have nurses in and out, doctors asking you things, and you will be thinking about the op rather than your hunger!
How exciting! Just think of why you are doing this, it is so nerve wracking but as soon as it is done you wonder why you were so nervous!
Just keep on top of the pain relief afterwards but it honestly isn't a very painful op :-) xxx

Glad to hear it went well!
Are you in Any pain? Remember to take the tablets regardless for the next few days!
I would say my hunger hasn't fully returned yet! I don't think about food as much! I wasn't hungry at all for at least a week!!
Shame you didn't get much sleep :-( maybe you can catch up at home! I too had the lovely electric stockings! But I was so zonked I didn't care!! Lol
Well done on your pre diet! It's definitely a sign of what's to come! Xxx

Tc51. I know what you mean about Op. When lay down he said 10 seconds and might get rusty taste in mouth... Dont think i went even 10 seconds. Woke up in recovery room and couldnt believe it was all over!

I only say that because I had dissolvable co-codamol and it made me gag which really hurt! I then had dissolvable solpadol and that did the same! I then ended up on tiny tramadol tablets which were amazing and also helped me sleep!
I had such trouble with the dissolvable stuff but luckily I only live 5 minutes up the road from the hospital, so just make sure! I'm probably just a wimp! Xx

Is anyone else type 2 diabetic? Ive only taken some of my tablets since op which Ive made smaller as they are taken with food and as ive not ate much havent wanted to take them? Not sure what Im supposed to do. Ive two letters to hand into GP which I will take tomorrow. Is there anything else we should shouldnt do? I cant close my back patio door as i havent the strength - can we iron? hoover etc? (house is doing my head in) saying that dont think i would be able to move hoover around yet. Think Hubby thinks Im milking it but I tell you, im deffo not!

I was told I can drive when I felt comfortable and able to do an emergency stop without hurting myself! Wasn't allowed to drive within 48hours because of the general anaesthetic! But apart from that it's as soon as your comfortable. I didn't drive until at least 8/9days, purely because I didn't have to!
I also felt so weak! I couldn't even open a packet of angel delight which was so stressful!! Heheheehe! How long have you been signed off work for? I was told not to do anything strenuous like hoovering etc for atleast 2 weeks! You just need to take it easy and remember you have stitches/wounds that need to heal!
What have u been able to eat? Xxx

Hunger didn't return for me until at least 10 days properly!
Glad you are being looked after :-)
Yes I slept propped up for a week or so aswell! Then when I finally laid on my side I sort of wedged some duvet under my tummy and it felt a lot more comfy! Couldn't do that on my left side for quite a while!!
How are you feeling about it all? X

My consultant phoned twice and a nurse once who gave advice about diet, I must say I did feel quite on my own and wasn't really sure what I was doing! It is a complete life changer which I don't think anyone who hasn't experienced it will ever understand! I'm week 4 now and I must say I now feel confident in what I'm doing and feels like I've had the band forever!!
But if I can help in any way just let me know!
What do you do for work? Don't go back until your ready x
