Gastric band 5 dayspost op.. Very bad pain

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi everyone

I'm 5days post op from having a gastric band fitted and I'm still in a lot of pain.. Mainly severe back ache and sharp pains in my ribs, is this normal? I've been taking 1 cocodamol when the pain starts as the liquid painkiller I was given has no effect :-(

Please someone advise if they've had the same problem x

    Hi Sophia,

I had terrible pain for a couple of weeks after my band, backache was unreal and also on all the incision sites It was so tender , Im disabled which didnt help matters and i pulled muscles getting up and down off the loo to add to it all lol, felt like id been run over by as bus for 2 weeks. I was taking tramadol and paracetamol every 6hrs and still couldn't keep on top of the pain. I had awful shoulder tip pain from the gas too just to top it off.. It will get better in time. Ring your surgeons team if your unsure of pain relief as that's what they are there for to advise you hun. Don't feel you have to suffer.. you don't. Hoping you get on top of the pain asap, make sure you rest up and don't try to do too much, it will only slow the healing process. ((Huge hugs from a stranger who feels your pain)) 😊

I'm 6 weeks post op now and totally back to normal, no pain at all from my band (gping for my 1st fill next wednesday) so I can promise you it will go and is Deffo worth it in the end, like everyone else has said either surgery team or your gp, just ask them for the good stuff lol xx

Sophia don't panic the pain is normal.. Although it is keyhole it still is surgery.. I took liquid codeine for 4 wks so I would suggest stronger painkillers.

yes dear your pain should start to ease now, but i had to have 2 weeks off work and it was a month before i really got over it. It will all be worth it but please dont let them put too much fluid in the band i know its a temptation as you will want to lose as much weight as fast as you can but its a big mistake, CYNTHIA

yes i have , dont let them put any more in, i had to have all of mine removed because i had pancreatic cancer and i still can only small amounts even though i have no restriction at all, my oncologist said its a common problem with bands, CYNTHIA
