Gastric band help

Posted , 6 users are following.

I am considering a gastric band but am so confused as to which company that go with and to trust. I have looked at surgicare and healthier weight I would have my gastrich band fitted in either Nottingham or Birmingham. Has anyone used either of these companies to have theirs done and if not could you recommend any companies. I live in leicester thank you

    Hey...

I have my band booked with Heathier Weight in Manchester. They are incredibly professional, very helpful and their pre and post op diets are week worth it.

My date for my operation is in May and prior to that I had a consultation and spoke with the Birmingham ladies for quite a while to eventually make my decision.

Aside from medical professionalism and a duty of care to you, it's entirely on what and who you feel comfortable with. Make sure you have goals set... be ready to sacrifice and embrace a new healthy way of living if you do decide to do it.

    Good luck ☺

Thank you for replying. I spoke to HW least week and the lady I spoke to was very calming and informative. I went back into their website and the website has so much information on there I was really pleased. She did however say to me that I will have aftercare for life where I can call them any time but this isn't mentioned anywhere on the website unless I just didn't spot it? I have a consultation apt with surgicare on weds. They are about £1000 cheaper with 2 years aftercare service. But I think I may book a consultation with HW as well to compare. What kind of questions should I ask at the consultation? It's exciting but also scary 😱

      Hi...

All points are mentioned are valid... do your own research and make a decision that's right for you. It's your health at the end of the day and if you are going to invest in this I wouldn't put cost into it (I know it's easier said than done).

I opted for the 5 year aftercare with pre and post op food for 349 extta but we'll worth it. They are there there for life but you aftercare stops in terms of being covered whichever one you choose.

It doesn't tell you the ins and ouT's on the website so book a consultation.. write your questions down and utilise the time spent with the doctors and advisors. You are under no obligation to book straight away and I even came away for 3 months and really thought about it all, what are my issues with food... my lifestyle... friends... drink...

I wish you all the best of luck and keep asking questions if you are unsure.

I'm not, I need to sign up to that. I'm so excited... how do you feel? I have 5 days off work but just plan to go back to work after that.

Do you feel hungry? I'm aware we don't get our fill till week 5/6 so Im curious of how I'm going to feel after the operation.

I would urge you to do lots off homework and think about what method is best for you and your life style, in case you haven't seen any off my post I'm one off the 5% off band failure, I went privately with Nuffield hospital group and they were fine , they offer you back up and help for so long but you are basically in charge so having the right op is the most important thing because if it isn't no amount off nice staff and holding hands will put it right and then you end up like myself and others stuck in hell for a very long time so please don't get swept along in a "band bubble " read research ! Good luck with your journey

Oh no. I'm So sorry it didn't work for you. It's food for thought, if you'll pardon the pun, that I imagine it to only work and imagine the slimmer me in my head and how I want to look etc but the thought hadn't even entered my head as to what if it doesn't work!! How did the band make you feel? Were you sick, in pain, uncomfortable? What did you do in the end? Did you have the band taken out? Have you thought about having a different procedure done like a gastric balloon or liposuction or something???

I am consistently sick no matter what I eat so my diet now is terrible I live on all the food I shouldn't eat ! I would never say to someone not to have it done but sometimes it frightens me that people don't realise it may not work and just how hard it is! If being sick and finding every toilet when I go out was an Olympic sport I would be a gold medal winner😀I finally decided this year at a family party ( spent mainly in toilet) enough is enough and on the 13 April I go up for my assessment for a band removal followed by a by pass to say I'm scared is an understatement as I did so much research last time and it still didn't work, I guess I've learned that everyone's body is different and you won't know till it's been done I hope that you are one off the lucky ones  not sick and in pain and a very curtailed life . Good luck to you

    Hi Gemma,

I had a gastric band fitted at Birmingham Spire two days ago!

I did mountains of research...I opted for HW in the end. It's a very ethical company and I only have praise for them.

My surgery was with Paul Super.

All the best...There are lots of scare stories out there but many positive ones too!

The most important part is to do your research and feel 100% confident with your surgeon and the aftercare you will receive.

It's not a quick fix. HW have expressed from the beginning it's a tool to help you lose weight not the cure.

Good luck on your journey x x x
