Gastric band inflated now cannot swallow water

Last night I had my first band filling with 4mg and now all day I feel sick and cannot even get water down, the only relief I get is if i have some large gulps of water and my gag reflex throws everything up, then I am relaxed for about an hour

Sounds like it may be too tight, can you get them to take a few mls out?

Didn't they check you could swallow water properly before you left the clinic? Sounds like an overfill to me. I would contact your provider asap x

try just tiny sips of water.  You should have sat and sipped a glass of water after your fill to make sure you could drink.  You are not supposed to gulp.  Also you are on liquid diet for the next couple of days for your band to adjust.  If you cannot even keep down a sip of water every now and then I would ring your provider, tell them and get a small defil.  Let us know how you get on x

Hello Dani, this may sound silly but when I couldn't keep water down my surgeon asked a nurse to get me a cup of tea and I was absolutely fine after that one cup of tea and I never looked back. Don't leave it any longer though, you could be in serious trouble if you become dehydrated. Good luck D

this reminds me of the tough time my dad had. it happened to him all the time, until recently... he used to tell me  how hard it was for him to get any food or liquid down.once it was so painful he went to the emergency room.  they told him that it was pretty common. they observed him for an hour or so... then it finally went down and he had some relief. they told him that perhaps he didnt chew the food enough, or he just had too much food/drink. he had to learn to live with that for a while. he couldnt sip water, he couldn't even swallow his own saliva. he had to spit it out. this would go on for days. finally he was due for a check up. they ended up removing a small amout of saline. and he felt better almost immediately. wasn't losing as much weight as fast as he used to, but at least he's a lot more comfortable. i know how painful and uncomfortable this is for you. i am sorry to hear you are suffering. you dont have to do this, but i would call the doctor about this sooner than later.if i were you. you shouldn't have to suffer to lose weight. the doctor will make you more comfortable i am sure. much success to you!
