Gastric band procedure coming up! Want to hear your stories

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi everyone. I am going in for my procedure on 1st April. I'm starting my pre op diet in 2 days. I'm really very excited and also nervous about it all.

I'm worried about how quick I'll recover. What the pain will be like. What I will actually be able to eat immediately and coming months post surgery. I haven't been able to tell my family or friends as they don't agree with weight loss surgery so I'm feeling pretty anxious about going through this alone.

I've read a lot about people vomiting after the procedure and I'm also wanting to know roughly how much I can expect to lose in the next 3 months... 6 months.... 12 months etc....

Can I get your stories guys? Any tips or advise?

    Hi there,

first well done to you for your decission to go ahaed with the OP. My was done 3 years ago. To answer all your questchen first my OP was done in one of the best places to go in the UK, the L&D in Luton. After my surgery i had not a single day any problems. There was no pain at all. They gave me very strong painkiller to take home, but i havent take them. You can eat actualy everything, but be gently. meat only minced. when you start vomiting than you had eaten to much. Over the first year i lost about 8.5 Stone. I can lose some more if i want but i`m feeling compftable so. Hopefully this was helpfull for you.

      Hi ,

one more very importend thing. I`m not so sure that your advisers make this clear to you. After a lot weight loss there comes the problem with the exess skin . In my case there is none. Every thing looks fine. 3 weeks after the surgery i start in the gym for good training. 4 days a week. And now i`m still going to the gym for fun. and the really amazing thing is that i can eat now what ever i want and keep my weight.

      All the best

Hi,  I had some right old problems, hence why I haven't been writing, I had my op on Thursday 19/3 and it was a success,no pain killers at all and just a bit of trapped wind in left shoulder, Friday I had a yoghurt before I left the private hospital and it didn't go down, it came back  up after 20 minutes, so told have water, tea, coffee only and went home in the evening, iwas ok Friday night, sat and Sunday till late evening, then my chest started to feel tight and during Sunday night I started throwing up every hour, I could swallow saliva, ended up in hospital A&E, cutting the story short I was admitted and put on a drip for fluids till today, had a barium X-ray and was told the band was now just extremely tight, now I can tolerate water and tea again !. Come home this evening and back to work tomorrow! Consultant said most men have the same problem and it just means I will loose weight quicker and 1st band fill will be in 6 to 8 weeks time, both private and NHS hospitals have been great, If I could turn back time I would still of had it done it doesn't change a thing, suppose made the journey more interesting and it's all part of my weight loss journey, so anybody reading this, problems can be fixed so don't be put off, I was surprised though how everyone in all hospital depts were very knowledgeable of gastic band surgery it's definitely the way forward for weight loss in this country, good luck everyone  and especially gasticity for starting this post and look forward to your updates xx
