Gastric Band Surgery - post-op issues

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi, I had my gastric band surgery on Saturday by single incision laporascopy. I'm experiencing awful trapped wind which is making it difficult to sleep...Windeez hasn't been of much help and neither has peppermint tea, does anyone have any other ideas?

Also - I have low blood sugar due to the lack of eating. I've been increasing my intake but this hasn't got rid of the symptoms. Has anyone else experience dizziness, nausea and weakness? If so, how did you solve it?

Try walking around to help get some of the gas up.

I don't have any advice for the nausea or weakened in afraid!

But I can say that with each day you will feel considerably better than the day before.

    Kind regards

    Hi Nina

I had to sleep sitting up for about 10 days due to wind pain. I took wind ease along with liquid paracetamol and liquid ibroprufin. Also walking about and rocking back and forth help release the wind.

To keep up my sugar levels up I ate areo chocolate mousse and custard pots.

If you are diabetic you should call the dietician and get advice on how to manage your sugar levels while on the liquid diet.

I hope that you are feeling better soon

      Thanks Lissa

I've resorted to some low fat chocolate mousse, luckily had some in the fridge! Not diabetic, thankfully.

That's good to know as I'm 5 days in now... I'll try to hang in there and am going to try the rocking now.

      Thanks again :-)

      Hi Nina

I'm 13 day's in and if I never see soup or yogurt again it will be too soon, lol.

Hang on in there by day 7 things get better.

I've lost a little over 20lbs since starting the pre op diet so things are going well.

    Hi

Yes I had the same symptoms of dizziness, nausea & sickness along with the weakness. This is common in gastric bypass but very unpleasant I increased intake of orange juice and had soup 4 times a day and sleept a lot it soon pass.. If not consult you're doctor.

    Take care xxx

I've been told to follow this diet plan:

    Liquids only day 1-13

    Pureed foods day 13-28

    Soft foods after

Has anyone got a different diet plan? Can I try some pureed foods day 10 or is it too early?

      Hi Nina

I did and I was fine but I think it depends on how you are feeling and whether you feel like you need it. I dare say that it is frowned upon but I was back at work after 3 days and have 3 kids too so I'm a really active person and liquid just wasn't cutting it!!

I rang my nurse but she was just horrible so I made my own decision and thankfully my body has reacted really well I was just super careful and didn't eat much just the odd spoonful to start with until I gauged my body's reaction.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I've been up and about for days several days now and feel pretty fit. I've still got issues with the trapped wind, which is awful....how long did you have that for?

Ah, I can't take Maalox Plus as it may interact with my Levothyroxine! Long walks it is!
