Gastric Bypass & New ..Struggling with Gluten Challenge

Where do I begin ??

Okay was diagnosed IBS in my mid 20..I just got on with life

Mid 40's Things got a bit out of control and it was alot worse so Colonoscope done and diagnosed with Diverticular Disease. Did all the things advised to do and ...I just got on with life.

Things progressively go worse ..flipping between diahorrea \ constipation poo that stank wouldnt flush. I put it down to bad eating. I was very overweight bloated

In 2013 aged 51 i had a gastric bypass. Things got so so much worse no matter how good i was i suffered continuely, temendously  with steatorrhea and terrible wind pains that literally stank the house out. I couldnt go on like this I had cut out fatty thing and all sugary stuff completely out of my diet in an effort to sort it. Bread was a big no no as it would get stuck in my tiny pouch for a tummy but not only that it made me ill. Cereals were an issue as they just ..ran through.. so i cut them out and ate fruit instead but i was still getting issues. The dietician suggested that it may be lactose intolerance and possible wheat. So in September last year I cut out lactose and indeed things did improve but not totally eradicated . Never the less a vast improvement. I still couldnt eat bread, crispbreads or cereal though. At christmas our family bought us a bread maker so slowly little bits of bread were sneaking back into my diet not alot half a slice here and there but not on a daily basis and it wasnt until 2 months ago i noticed that my terrible tummy was back with avengence and I put 2&2 together. Okay so lets try wheat now & after a week nope I was still having issues although there was a tiny bit of an improvement. so 5 weeks ago I cut out gluten not expecting anything and hoping in fact that there would be no gluten issues. After just 4 days the difference was so tangible!! No farting green clouds, my energy was increasing almost like i was being slowly recharged. By week two i was bouncing with energy. I had my first normal poo in a long long time, I lost half a stone & I could think clearly!! I found omitting gluten fairly easy and i wasnt missing too much at all. Three weeks in i crashed a little i started to feel a bit off. My weight spiked a little, runny stinky tummy Sigh ...where had a gone wrong? or was it a placebo effect just wearing off?? Scratching my head i thought of all things i had eaten and quickly realised i had had a few (4) oxo drinks over the previous two days and with the packaging long gone i had just assumed there was nothing sinister in them WRONG!! a few days later i was back to the new me.

A month in (Thursday last week) i decided maybe i should discuss this with my GP who wseemed slightly irked that i had gone about this all wrong. I actually think she is of the opinion im a bit of a nutcase for even coming to the gluten conclusion. She feels it is more of a FODMAP issue ..im afraid i cant concur but i will go along for now. However she does want me to have a blood test foR gluten Antibodies done but of course I now have to do the GLUTEN CHALLENGE. i know weetabix kills me so i can manage to get 2 of those in first thing but the first day i did so i was scared to leave the house the effects hit me and the toilet like a freight train! and for two days i was so ill i just wanted to forget the whole damn thing. Day three i felt a little better but all the old symtoms have came whirling back and im now followed by my own personal green cloud again while it feels like world war three has broken out in my intestines.. oh there goes another hand grenade. In over three days i regained a full stone!!  Do you know how disheartening that is for someone who has lost sixteen through bloody hard work and determination! Okay i know its not true weight and only a blip in the scheme of things BUT COME ON!!

Okay but here is the thing on top of those 2 weetabix i am trying desperatey to get the recommended four slices of bread into my tiny stomach where before all this i could barely manage a half slice .. Bread just does not sit well in a bypassed tummy for anybody who has had it done. its potentially harmfull in that because i am now crammed full of useless bread i then can not find room for the essential good proteins that i need. My albumin levels are apparently already in the low end of normal scale so i do need to be aware of this. My b12 is consistently low so again its an issue. Can anyone please please please give me suggestions of getting high levels of gluten into my system over the next 4 weeks by any other means than bread! I am going through hell on earth to do this challenge but my tiny pouch cant cope with the added stodge. The weetabix i can cope with because its what's known as a slider food and just slides on through.. bread on the other hand acts as a painful stopper

 Thanks in advance

Frances

thank you ...not.. for the lack of replies.but thank you to the lady on ANOTHER forum who suggested that i contact the coeliac.org and ask to speak to one of their dieticians (why didnt I think of that). So i did just that & Lorna was very helpful in so many ways gave me the advice i was looking for. So to help any future RNY bypass patients who come across this thread seeking the same advice as i was here is what Lorna suggested...

An average slice of bread contains 30grams of flour so a simple way round this is to incorporate 30gx4 (120grams) of flour into anything that you consume over the gluten challenging days ..yoghurts soups being a good example. A lot of flour but im sure i can get inventive on ideas on how to get it inside me. .thankyou
