Gastritis - Any Advice Please, Thanks!

A bit of a background I had the Flu over Christmas, along with cold and a very nasty cough for two weeks over Christmas and New Year periods. I had a bad temperature and threw up twice with some light blood, due to coughing so much.

Since then I have lost my appetite, upper right abdomen bloated and when I ate its was painful and I was full quickly. Middle of January I have visited two unsympathetic GP's both had said its Gastritis and was put on lansoprazole for a month. I do suffer from bad anxiety. I did a Bowel Test twice and came back negative. I push my GP for a blood test for my Liver, as i took too much paractomatol tablets. I had the flu and blood test came back normal.

Can paracetamol tablets cause my Gastritis? Both of my GP's didnt really say much Gastritis. i have been searching online for weeks and i am so exhausted looking online. i am at a lost here, i have been strict on my diet, no junks foods. Still get mild stomach pain in my upper region and not as bloated. No diarrhea or bleeding. Any advice much appreicated. Thank you! Sorry its long!

Instead of going to a GP consult a gastroenterologist. Also you can consult a registered dietition or nutritionist who can advise your daily food menu.

Sounds like your stomach is still recovering from the nasty bout of flu that you experienced. It sounds like gastritis and the normal treatment would be to give you lansoprazole so I do hope you took them as instructed. You say you are now not as bloated so something is getting better, and I assume you have stopped taking the paracetamol now. Paracetamol is a popular drug as it doesnt normally produce any gastric symptoms and the liver deals with it very efficiently. You have had normal blood tests so stop thinking along those lines.

Glad that you are being strict with your diet. A low fat/low sugar diet can help tremendously.

Anxiety can make this sort of problem worse I'm afraid so give up searching on the internet for something you dont have. If you have finished the lansoprazole try getting an antacid which you can buy OTC. If you are still taking the Lansoprazole then you can use an antacid as long as you leave 1-2 hours between doses.

If ,after a few weeks you feel you are no better, then go back to your GP.

      Thank you for your replies.

lester900 - I have booked another GP appointment few weeks time.

Marina - You are right I need to stop google online, doesn't do my anxiety levels any good. I was so worried thinking the worse. I have been taking Lansoprazole for the past two weeks now (once a day each morning at the same time) I don't get the sharp pain in the upper abdomen when I eat anymore, still a bit bloated and just mild stomach pain on/off. I couldn't even wear a bra, as my upper stomach felt so tight around my ribs, hurt and bloated. I read that Gastritis take a while to heal, I am not expecting any miracle.

Thank you for taking your time to read and reply!
