Gastritis - Constant severe stomach pain

Posted , 278 users are following.

I wondered if anyone could help me, since about January 2013 I have on and off had a dull ache in my stomach, sometimes flaring up to make me feel sick. I actually put this down to anxiety however in the past few weeks my theory has changed.

About three weeks ago my stomach flared up however to the worst pain I have experienced as yet, made me feel like I was going to be sick constantly and made me not know what to do with myself. I feel like there is a lump in my thought and my stomach feels tender and swollen when flares up feels like my stomach is on fire/knotted up!

The pain was so sever I went to the doctors (2 and a half weeks ago), my doctor felt my stomach and said it felt swollen, I told her the symtoms and she says she thinks I have gastritis and prescribed me with Lansoprazole 30mg tablets to take daily for 1 month, this however to date hasn't helped my stomach at all, the flare up comes and goes however the pain in my stomach is constant and the Lansorprazole is causing terrible upset stomach to the point I am worried to not be near a toilet.

I went back to the doctors on Tuesday 22/10 explained all of the above to her and she said I am to keep taking the tablets and she is happy to see me again in November (once the months course has been taking) however im in dispear with this pain sad HAD ENOUGH OF FEELING ILL and can't help but think the worse

Has anyone experienced symptoms same as above as I feel extremely on my own shouting and no one understanding what im going though

Comments greatfully received.

Hey Jenny if you don't mind me asking how is your diet? There could be a traffic jam in your intestines. You might not produce enough enzymes to break down the food. You mentioned you lived a very fast lifestyle so Im assuming you eat a lot of proccessed food.Right now I'm taking an enzyme supplement which helped tremendously. I still feel ehh but not as much as before. I suggest you try it. You can buy it from GNC.

HI All; so many comments ; it's hard to read them all so apologies if this has been covered.

    The solution may be:

    1. Take Milk Thistle to improve the function of your liver which affects the gallbladder and then the bowel. (right side abdominal pain just under rib cage and or pain across your sternum - where the liver is)

    2. Take a liquorice tablet to kill bad bacteria (kills h pylori) [cranberries together with oregano inhibit h pylori) and also a pro-biotic/ yoghurt.. also reduces issues with gallbladder /bile reducing acid.. (if that is the right way to say it)

    3. Tak anti Inflammatories like GARLIC - (also antioxidant) or Turmeric.

    4. Take a vitamin tablet; if you have right sided pain below your rib cage; you may want to consider taking a liverhealth vitamin tablet.

Imrpove your diet; by including anti-oxidantfoods(like red grapes/onions/ beetroot etc) and do ensure you take anti-inflammatories regularly as inflammation can increase risks of cellular change.

I hope this information is helpful adn woudl very much appreciate feedback  as it assists others who are unwell to know whether this is working. it worked for me; liver/gallbladder and bowel/ stomach issues.. and it's do'able.

Thanks to God and Jesus and a helpful christian who was in a wheelchair whose name was SARAH .. smile

i also had a makeover in my diet plan; if you have difficulty digesting fats; look at your liver.

I had suffered for 7 years; right sided abdominal pain (under ribcage)and pain in my middle stomach.. started off with a food intolerances, one thing here, then during the course of the 7 years escalted from pain under the right rib cage intermittently to full blown pain to distension; and the list goes on!  coudn't eat food without pain. i wont' go on. The issue was bad bacteria (perhaps h pylori) and inflammation and liver and gallbladder issues.

i forgot to mentio that reducing yoru caffeine and alcohol intake (alcohol is a toxin to the body).. is one of the things you should also consider!!!

Inflammation of hte liver is Heptatitis; and it is not being diagnosed (or patients are not being told)  ; so best to look after your liver.. smile

another thing i forgot to say; it is early so apologies; is for ANYONE taking ANY type of medication - Please include Anti-oxidant foodstuffs and probiotics  in your diet to promote the removal of waste/ toxic substances; assisting your liver; because you will find a lot of people develop liver issues and toxic bulid up (fatty foodstuffs/ nsaids etc) which can then manifest in yellow creamy patches on your eyes (sclera).. and this is indicative of liver and gallbladder issues.. so pain meds can make the situation WORSE for your liver that is ALREADY struggling with 'stuff' like fats, alcohol, caffeine etc.. (please look  up fatty liver)..

I have these same issues. I have been to countless doctors and all my labs and so forth are "normal" yet still i am in so much pain. I was wondering if you found out anything more from when you last wrote. Has anything helped you? I wish you luck with getting well. I'm a bit releaved to hear I'm not the only one with problems such as these.

hi jenny, hope you are feeling better.. I have been feeling the same symptoms for a week.. pills are not seems to be working..

Buscopan seems to work just slightly.. not much effective..

I live in the carribean and Aloe Vera is what most ancient use for all kind of sickness, We use it natural, cut a piece of the aloe vera plant, peel it and swallow small pieces.( i have yet to try it) is not something you can eat allot or everyday..

For now.. for the pain i use cannibis as well, ( it is illegal where i live) i do wish i could get it in the ingesting form..

I have had almost the exact same pain your describing. It started in June and I went to go to a party and I had one drink but the pain would just kill my stomach. It felt like it would cramp so bad to the point where I was going to be sick. The same thing would happen after eating. I went to the doctor and he said it sounded like gastritis. I was on medicine but didn't work. Finally we went on holidays and the pain was to the point I couldn't stand it. They prescribed me lansaprazol as well and that seemed to help for a while. However the doctors thought I had an ulcer but the ultrasound came back fine. I went back to my doctor and she prescribed me perriette and said my stomach lining was inflamed. I find perriette is working but I still have to watch what I eat/drink. I can't have much alcahol because that will make me extremely sick. I can't have much acidic drinks like even orange juice in the morning. I too have anxiety pretty bad and social anxiety. So if I get super nervous when my stomach hurts I find if I can calm down and relax my stomach that helps too. Anyways I hope this helped.

    Hi there,

Im so happy that other people are going through the same thing. I have had stomach pains for a year and a half now. It seems to be constant but fluctuates in pain serverity sometimes it comes on so quick and is unbearable. I have missed countless days at work or uni and i feel like i cant go anywhere for the fear of feeling rough. I have had blood tests, endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound, had tablets for ibs and cut out various foods from my diet but nothing seems to help. The doctors have given up on me and put it down to depression so i am on clitalopram. However i think the depression is more an effect of the pain rather than the cause. Im at my wits end and dont know what to do anymore.

Hi, Jenny. I have had the same thing going on with me for a few years now. It's always on my right side though..in my rib cage area. The flare ups normally only happen once or twice a month but they last for 2-3 days at a time. The flare ups normally start with me eat something. The only way I can make myself feel better is to get the food off my my stomach and even then the pain does not completely go away. For 2-3 days I pretty much do not eat anything and if I do I have to make it come back up. The pain is awful. I have been to the ER about this seeing as I do not have insurance but the doctors here do not take me seriously. I told them what was going on. They did not even do any tests. They just said you have GERD. To this day I still do not think I have GERD. I too have had luck with Aloe vera, but it didn't work all the time for me. I bought some aloe vera juice(which isn't very good btw) and just drink it when I would have a flare up. Sadly the people I live with threw it away when they were "cleaning out the fridge" I think stress could have a little to do with it, but I also know there is more to it than that. Hopefully one day I will find out.
