Gastroscopy

Hi

I am having a gastroscopy next week. I am a bit freaked out. I am also having a sigmoidoscopy at the same time. I will be asleep. I have IBS and Diverticulosis.

Any thoughts as to why I would require a gastroscopy?

IBS can occur for many reasons, often because food is not being digested properly so the gastroscopy would be to look at whether there is anything in the upper GI tract that could be causing the problems in the lower GI tract. Good luck with the procedures.

They look for sources of bleeding I would have thought. Ulcers, also bacterias called helicobacter. They can cause bleeding. It's a fairly normal investigation if you are bleeding. You be asleep so it should be comfortable for you too. Good luck

I will let you know re IBS it's usually another thing causes pain if you have diverticular desease I'm seeing consultantvnext week.re biopsy results I.don't have any polyps or tumours cancer However have thickening of my bowel and that means bowel colon. becomes narrow causing pain if food doesn't go through quick enough That's why I have been.told to eat alot of fibre. however it blows my stomach up wind so can't win.!!

      Hi Mekekie

I am having a sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy tomorrow. I am nervous about the gastroscopy. I don't like any tubes down my throat specially sedated.

The tube doesn't go directly down.your throat it goes up your nose and hangs down your throat from there if they put directly down your throat you would choke

It says on the description it goes down the throat as it is flexible and they numb the area and put you to sleep. I don't know. I'm scared.
