GBS vaginitis

curious to see if any of you ladies battling with BV have been tested for group beta strep? i was cultured because my BVAB2 culture continually comes up negative, and i came up positive for this. initially i was positive for gardenerella but oral metro didnt help, even tried doxy. anyways, she started me on a weeks worth of amoxi and my yellow discharge started to clear up so i requested an extra week to be sure. still taking it now. from what i hear, most women are colonized with GBS but we are usually unsymptomatic and it is only treated in pregnant women but since i am symptomatic, she decided to treat me. fingers seriously crossed this fixes me up because this has been going on for 6 months! tell me your experience with GBS if youve been positive before!

    hi there.

I battled bv for six months and it has been gone for two months. I learned last week i have strep b and on meds. This is the first time ive ever had it in my life. was that your only symptom?

my only symptom from the start of this about six months ago was abundant yellow discharge. never had a smell to it and i havent been itchy at all. the only weird thing is that over time it turned into a really weird texture... like stringy strands of yellow goop which was really gross, and it never dried so i constantly felt wet. i finished my 2 week course of amoxi a few days ago- still have mildly yellow discharge but much, much less of it and its gotten lighter in color. the weird texture continues but only from time to time. i've also been taking an extremely potent probiotic, 500 billion lactobacillus, so not sure what to attribute the progress to: the antibiotics or probiotic. have you gotten better since starting antibiotics?

i got a second opinion today- doing a general culture, repeat DNA test and a ureaplasma culture but he told me that no matter what, he isnt starting me on antibiotics until i have tried OTC Rephresh gel. he thinks my only issue is getting my ph to maintain properly. told me to use it for 3 days and if i improve, to use it after sex and after my periods. all my symptoms came back after this last period and he thinks that treating the strep did more harm than good because the antibiotics wipe out all the good bacteria too and the flora never has a chance to reboot without ph and lactobacillus intervention. sounds like a plausible solution so i am going to give it a whirl.
