I've had PMR since mid 2011. And untill November on methotrexate also. Had many flares and every time my legs ( thighs) would start to hurt first. In Feb. I was finally of of prednisone . Afew weeks went by and getting out of a chair, out of the car became difficult. My GP did some blood work and my inflamation markets were normal. Then I got an appoitment with my Rheumatologist and she tested again. They were within the "normal" range but towards the high end of normal. I went back in a week and said somethings going on because my neck was getting very stiff, and I have been working on stretching everything because I was in physical therapy due to a January back surgery. She gave me a couple shots, did more blood work. The next day I felt much better. I met with her a week later. Labs showed inflamation and low iron. So I started back on 7.5 mg and some iron pills. I'm much better than a few weeks ago. Hope you can get relief.

Just because your blood markers are OK doesn't mean it isn't the PMR - while patients are still on even a low dose of pred the production of the proteins that cause them to rise may be suppressed and lag a long way behind the symptoms. The symptoms often appear at the start long before any sign is seen in the bloods - and that is why symptoms should always trump blood results.

Two years is very short for PMR - anecdotally it is more likely for GCA patients to be off pred in 2+ years than for PMR patients.
