GCA x tapering
Posted , 5 users are following.
Having GCA there are three years I have flare ups now and then due to the fact my Rheumy just cares for the results of the blood tests, while paying no attention to my symptoms.
Following the discussions on the forums I get helpful information though.
This is a good thing!

However, some doctors like to get their patients off pred to be able to investigate other possible diagnoses - so at the very least you need to sit down with whatever doctor you see and discuss how to go about that. It is one thing to insist your patient reduces pred because they currently do not appear to have PMR or GCA - but what is he prepared to do if the symptoms return as you reduce. That is the crux of the situation and one for which you need to have a plan in place.

I just returned from Internist, he now says there are two other meds,\ he'd like to try Lyrica & Cymbalta and I asked why should I do this. I then told him that at my eye exam last week I was told I have borderline Glaucoma, never told that before & he says the pred wont do that. I am now scheduled to see a Neuro Opthomologist on May 18. I told him that all of my scalp pain has stopped since starting the pred and he says to me everyone gets a headache, I said this was not a normal headache, I could not lie down or touch my head why are you not considering my symptoms and he was just as rude as could be.
I told him that my Rheumy tried tapering me by 5 mil and I had the worse flare up and again he says thats what Firbo does so I was beating a dead horse. I'm going to try and find another Dr because I'm at the point of no return.
Today I was told I could have Fibromyalgia, I laughed, I tried to show him some printed material which clearly states that prednisone rarely if ever helps people with Fibro & he says not true.
He then tells me that I self diagnosed myself & I wanted to kick him.

Given you are paying for this delightful man's attention I'd sack him. Or are you medicare (or whatever it is)? If so - ask him why he took you on if he just wants to be rude and not do his job.
I would have kicked him - verbally if not physically
