Are you worried? Numbers are climbing in my neck of the woods in Europe. How is it impacting your life?
Any Italians here from N. Italy?
Danish King's Denmark not looking good either currently. Hopefully he will return and give us an update on the situation from the ground.

i am agnostic about it. not worried nor not worried. i would like to limit exposure to give enuf time for things to stabilize and hospitals to not be crowded. i will push off my medical procedures as long as i can as there is a lot of unknown at the time.

I am not worried about my health. In fact I may have even had COVID-19 already. My wife and I traveled to Mexico from Jan 6 to 21. Within about 2 days for returning to Canada we both got a nasty "cold". The main symptom was a dry cough and sore throat. I coughed so much I strained my chest muscles and it was extremely difficult to continue coughing. I also had a headache, and felt dizzy. I never caught my body temperature indicating high, but I felt chills and wondered if I had a had a fever. At the time nobody was being tested, so I have no test to confirm one way or the other if I had it. All I can say is that it was the worst "cold" I have had in a long time. I suspect we may have gotten it on the plane.
.
I don't think our Canadian government has things under control. They are more concerned about being politically correct than they are about keeping the virus out of the country. It is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. I have strong suspicions that the virus is a lot more widespread than what is being reported. I don't think there is adequate testing to determine how bad it really is.
.
With respect to my upcoming cataract surgery (August or so), I am not too concerned, but I do worry that elective surgery may be postponed if the hospital gets overwhelmed. That said, I believe the eye clinic is a very separate part of the hospital I will go to.
.
My real worry are my investments! They are making me feel really ill. Time to be buying, but as the saying goes, "buying into a falling market is like trying to catch a falling knife".

I'm cautious and a tad stressed (from the U.S.). In my life, I've never heard of a virus that has spread as rapidly as this one. Most people who are young and healthy are not worried. However, the medical community is trying to get across the fact that this particular virus kills at an even higher rate than the flu for those over the age of 40 (smokers, pre-existing health issues, etc. up the odds). So the current goal is to keep the numbers down so hospitals and clinics can handle the number of people needing help. Imagine you break your leg, or have a heart attack, and there's no room for you in the hospital. It makes sense to slow down the spread of this virus as best we can and have respect and do what you can to keep your family, neighbors, safe.
Now ask me about the plummeting U.S. Stock Market! OMG! I'm retired and my 401k is taking a real beating. Since I'm no longer contributing to it, I'm really worried. Will I have to go back to work? Only time will tell.

Myself more concerned about the panic it is causing and stock market.
I am concerned for those going through their surgeries. Must add s layer if worry for them.
Lots of conspiracy theories not the least of which it is one way to thwart USA elections.
This will be an interesting thread - wonder if moderators will take it down. But thanks worried now we can all have s place to share our concerns.
My daughter's university may be finishing test of the year with virtual classes. I wonder how they can write virtual exams????

So glad i had my cataract surgery last year. I think elective surgery will be delayed. So far life is the same less lysol wipes, bleach products and toilet paper. ( i still dont understand THAT!)
i hope and pray all my friends on this blog stay safe and support each other during these trying times.

I heard a good explanation for the toilet paper hoarding thing. People are really worried about corona virus and feel they have to do something. It is an easy thing to do, to make yourself feel better.

I don't think that is a perfect explanation. There is a real possibility that one might end up stuck at home for 2 weeks to a month (in a healthy or ill state). So some are being prepared while others are panic buying.
.
I bought 1 month supply of food and water around 1 to 2 months ago because I knew what was coming. I was hoping to be wrong but still being prepared hence I acted before 99% of the public did.
.
I recommended to all my near and dear ones to do the same. They all laughed at me. They said I was panicking when I was completely calm and logical and just being prepared and had connected the dots. They are not laughing any more as shelves are empty here. Plus I would not want to be in supermarkets when s**t truly hits the fan.
If this calms down then I have not lost anything as I just cycle the food and always have supply for next problem.
.
In Europe now 2nd country, Spain is in lock down.

It is coming to light that some are buying to resell the products for a profit. One couple got confronted at a Costco loading the whole back of their truck with Lysol wipes. It turns out they were going from one Costco to another and unloading it at home. They resell it on-line and claim to have made $30,000 so far doing it. Costco has now cancelled their membership.

What worries me is if people can't get the toilet roll they may well resort to using alternatives, baby wipes maybe they are in plentiful supply but will block up the sewage system.Imagine being in lock down and you can't use the loo.

2800 cases in Germany but only 5 deaths.

Here in Switzerland. 1135 cases, Jumped up by 267 today. Although many think it is close to 10'000.
No idea about the real story as the govt has decided to cook the numbers. So only serious cases will be counted/tested.
.
Politicians are so useless! I am not sure about China numbers either.
I think the only places that acted smart were S.Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong
.
Hopefully all this blows over but I am not so sure as despite what some people say, it is bit more than a normal flu.
When ranked per capita, the latest numbers.

Canada is starting to "cook" the numbers too. Essentially they are saying if you traveled outside the country and are showing symptoms, but you are not in trouble, then they tell you to self isolate for 14 days -- no testing is done. I suspect we are running short of testing capability. I think there are huge discrepancies between countries in the amount of testing that is done. Some of the numbers are not at all believable.

I initially said I was not worried about COVID-19 having any impact on me, or more specifically my cataract surgery schedule. I still think the cataract surgeries are done in a separate part of the hospital and are obviously done by eye doctors not doctors doing intensive care for COVID cases. But, it seems there are a lot of "authorities" now making arbitrary decisions for no good reason other than to make it seem like they are "doing something" about COVID. I suppose there might be some small overlap in nursing and anesthesiologist services, but I can't see anything would be gained by cancelling cataract surgeries. I am now thinking I might lose months, or perhaps even a year in my surgery schedule time.
In fact at this point I don't have a scheduled time other than an estimate of early August. Based on the way my wife's hip replacement surgeries were done (at the same hospital as I am going for my cataract), the process is that a month or two in advance they allocate surgery times and then you finally get a firm date.
Who knows now... When they start telling bars and restaurants to shut down, and forbidding those over 70 (like myself) to go outside, you know that society is essentially in chaos.

We have a number of friends who are doctors who aren't working. All elective surgeries are postponed as they need the operating rooms for COVID19 cases.
From other sources even for those that recover from the virus there could be long term effects to lungs and respiratory systems. This needs to be taken seriously and although some are some aren't and not staying put in their homes,

I can see that for normal surgeries. However, a cataract surgery is a pretty minor "operation", and I suspect they do not use the main operating rooms in the hospital, as they are in a separate eye clinic area. Right now, I thing there are three or so ICU beds in Alberta being used by COVID-19 cases. My thoughts would be that the real stress is on ICU beds, and ventilators. It could be an overall staffing issue though. They may just shut down the whole eye clinic area and use the nurses and admin staff elsewhere or send them home. They seem to want as many people at home as possible. Dentist offices in Alberta are now all closed except for emergencies.

Yes dental offices all closed in NB too except a couple of locations for emergencies. Pretty much everything is closed except for drive through take away food, pharmacies and grocery stores. They most definitely want people to stay home. Unfortunately some don't get it. Heard Italy had 450 deaths just yesterday in 1 day. This is serious and what we all do now could prevent deaths.
