General Stiffness

Posted , 12 users are following.

It i now nearly six weeks since I had my hip replacement.  The healing is progressing well and I am managing to have a good walk each day.  The wound still looks a bit pink and itches sometimes, but otherwise it is fine.

What I do find is that my hip and back are often stiff when I get up.  It seems to make no difference whether I have done my exercises or not.  I also find that if I overdo it, I am getting back pain by the end of the day.  Hopefully this will reduce over time.

I see my consultant on the 30th, so hopefully I can start to drive again and get rid of the crutches.

That is great Adamjackman good to hear. I also am almost 6 weeks post op (Friday) and have been walking unaided since I was 3 1/2 weeks post op. Seem to be doing great after a very rough start....Hang in there...Barb

Thank you. I can walk unaided, but was told by the physio I have to use my crutches until the consultant says otherwise. I think it is partly due to weakness in my left leg, as I hadn't really used it since the beginning of April.

    hi adam,

    you  are doing great -

remember that you had major invasive surgery and 6 weeks is still early days - Around this time expectations are raised - you are doing more of walking and as you mention, working etc - perhaps increasing exercises and less resting ..

you are learning how to walk properly - body trying to balance itself and making sure your posture is up straight but relaxed, taking the first step heel to toe etc.

Maybe you can do some gentle stretching when you are doing the standing exercises - instead of swinging, hold for 10 seconds ....

    big warm hug

    renee

Hi, I'm still a bit stiff in the morning, and I'm 9 weeks now. Think it's normal.
