Generic brand of sertraline changed and having relapse in symptoms. Anyone else??

Posted , 2 users are following.

so I've been on sertraline since December. and finally levelled out in May after getting to 100mg and going through all the horrible side effects. things were really improving and was doing well, my mood anxiety etc was much better until I noticed I was getting the shakes again was becoming more anxious and was getting suicidal thoughts. I figured out the generic brand had been changed so I've changed back and has been 2 weeks now. anxiety is a bit better suicidal thoughts are gone but I'm back to having really low mood achy legs and exhausted all the time.

has anyone else been through similar and how long did it take for everything to settle again?

    Hi Elaine,

I have had 3 prescriptions and each time I was given a different brand. I thought I was reading too much into it but I noticed some slight side affects, not as bad as the beginning but feeling sick in the morning and a little dizzy. The first time everything settled down in a couple of days, but this time I've really noticed a dip in my mood and increased anxiety. I'm on day 7 of the new pack, and I've had terrible sleep and shakes all down the left side of my body. I've only been on sertraline 7 weeks, so I know I could still be getting used to it and it may not be related to the brand. I'm going back to the doctor tomorrow, but I suspect he's going to up my dosage/look into the lack of sleep...again, it might be coincidental with the brand change, but I'm going to ask.

I hope things settle down for you really soon, maybe give it another week if you can and if no improvement speak to your GP?

    All the best,

thanks Sophie. it's hard at the start. I found my mood very up and down when upping the dose. it's taken 6 months to get to 100mg and full of side effects in that time. I must be very sensitive to meds. I'm on a few other meds aswell which doesn't help. if you are only at 7 weeks I'd maybe keep going I found sertraline much slower at taking effect than other antidepressants. week 12 is when there's a big difference. xxx

Thanks Elaine, I hope you're ok!

Doctor upped my dosage to 100mg, so I'm a bit like a Duracell bunny today. I mentioned about the side effects when taking different brands and they said that shouldn't cause any issues. However if we notice a difference, there must be something in it? To be honest, I just think I have to look at the pills in the wrong way and they throw me off kilter. But despite the side effects, I'm better on the meds than off.

      All the best,

      Soph
