Generic Sertraline

Has anyone had any issues with different brands of sertraline. I am 7 weeks into taking and get all my scripts from same pharmacy but this time round i have been given a different brand to previous two occasions. This time its ranbaxy not sure what it was for previous two as thrown packet away. Started taking 2 days ago and appear to be getting side effects again including anxiety. They are prescribed for OCD and depression and was starting to feel normal again but dont want to take a backward step. Is this normal that side effects kick off again because of a brand change?

I know pharmacists say generics are like for like im terms of active ingredients however there are loads of posts on the internet who say different brands efffect them differently.

Spoke to pharmacist today and it was nice fo get some honesty. They do get lots of reports of different side effects between brands. The active ingredients have to be the same but the inactive ones can vary and these can cause side effects is what i was told.

I've been fine for 2 years of 50mg of sertraline but all been same brand. This week, different brand and I've been waking up with shakes and that horrible nervous feeling and being tearful. About to up it to 75mg . May just be a coincidence. I'd have thought the side effects would have been something other than anxiety if it still has the same active ingredients.

Yes iv been on them for 7 months and had 3 different manufacturers and each time iv had side effects come back.

But they cannot always get the one that suits me. So the gp gave me 6 months supply and said to put my next order in in good time so they stand a better chance of getting them for me.

So the side effects are ones of anxiety? I'm having doubts on upping my dosage if that's the case as surely the side effects will go again fairly soon?

They will go when your body gets use to the different manufacturer.

but we shouldn't have to go though this every time we get a new batch.

I take mine for health Anxiety which are helping, I'm not on the internet every 5 mins looking to see what I might have.

ask the gp to put it on your notes which suits you best, hopefully they might be able to get them for you.

      good luck

Yes. I had bad side effects when i was given blue pills instead of the white i was originally given. Queried it and the pharmacy did some research and decided it was the blue colouring which has been banned in some countries for being used in medicinez. Now. I only have white pills.

Hey Cuffy, I've been on 100mg Sertraline for 6 months for severe anxiety and depression, this month I got my prescription from a supermarket pharmacy as I couldn't be bothered to go to my usual one, I was given the brand Aurobindo (think that's it), this was the brand I had when I first started and have then moved to different ones.I had terrible start up side effects with Aurobindo and now that I'm back on that brand I'm having them all over again, awful chest pain, increased anxiety and generally feeling horrific so yes, I really think it does make a difference. I thought I'd come so far but now I feel like I'm starting all over again. Now on these for 8 days and not due to see APN for 2-3 weeks so will have to put up with them, I'd got down to 0.5mg Lorazepam twice a day but yesterday I had to take 4 as had a huge panic attack at work😩. Anyway, just wanted to say I feel your pain. I'm trying to take things an hour at a time as that's about all I can cope with, keep your head up, it's such a nasty illness.Emily x x
