Genital Herpes

Hi guys,

If you read my other posts you will see I have been suffering with various symptoms over the past few months with no answers from health professionals.

During the past 4 months a stand out symptom is my genital area feels like it is burning constantly for days on end.  There doesnt seem to be any rash or redness in the affected area and the only lumps or bumps ive had have been Fordyce Spots.

This is the result of an unprotected BJ and NO INTERCOURSE back in October as I havent been the same sinceu.  The female didnt look to have any obvious cold sores and it was a group effort with none of the other parties experiencing any problems at all.

My question is, is it possible to have genital herpes based on all symptoms i have been experiencing without an actual outbreak of ulcers/blisters or sores?

I have mentioned to my GP and local GUM clinic and i have been told i dont have genital Herpes as there is nothing visible going on and the "I would know about it if i had it."

The burning and pain can be debilitating at times and with the constant onslaught I have had to deal with I am truly fed up.

Thanks

I'm going to be harsh here to get my points across: I think you would help yourself greatly if you stopped harking back to the illicit bj in October. Drop the obsession with herpes viral infection. You say yourself that the others participating have had no consequential problems. Just because one thing follows another doesn't mean it was caused by the first thing. That's childish logic. Your doctors appear to me to have given you good service. Maybe you need to keep going back with the symptoms you are now experiencing and maybe the right culture could identify the organism that appears to have caused your symptoms - sounds much more likely to me to be bacterial than viral. End of lecture. I wish you well soon and I realise you are having a horrible time with these symptoms and I really do sympathise.

      Agony Uncle 😁.

Thankyou very much for being brutally honest.  I totally appreciate everything you are saying.  If it was a bacterial infection then surely to god it wouldve been licked up in the countless Urine Dip Test, swabs and uribe samples.  The only reason i keep going on about this like it is life theeatening is because prior to this happening i hadnt visited a health professional (except for the dentist) for many years as I am usually very fit and well.  I am awaiting a follow up with my Urologist as I did have a CT scan just under two weeks ago to rule out Kidney Stones.

Also most symptoms have died down its more the skin burning/prickling on my little fella and left hip/abdom lain.

      Thanks

      Thanks for your mature response.

I'm still unsure if your urine samples were sent to a lab for cultures to identify which bacterium? I had experience a while back of a UTI where the first antibiotic I was prescribed simply didn't work. Turned out the lab test result (a week after the dip test) told my GP that that bacterium was resistant to that first antibiotic. He prescribed a different antibiotic and within days I was better.

Im unsure whether they cultured it as the first Urine test i did at my GP's was sent for Chlamydia screening and then about 4 seperate Urine samples were sent of at different times.  I arent 100% sure of what they do with the samples in a lab when sent from a GUM clinic.  Do they just have specific tests to look for STI's or would they culture the samples for growth of bacteria/viral activity?

If they tested for specific bacteria, I would expect that they would have told you the results.

      The testing I am aware about is as follows;

3 or 4 Urine Dip tests at doctors surgery,

1 x Urine sample for Chlamydia screening at Doctors surgery,

Full round of STD tests including Urethral Swab, Blood and Urine which came back negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphillis, HIV.

I was told all tests were negative but didnt realise they would have to suspect something for it to be tested for specificaland detected.

I spoke in length with the consultant of my local GUM clinic this afternoon and she said from their point of view I have a full bill of health and recommend I revert back to my GP and demand all the tests including CBC (Full blood count) U+E's, LFT's etc.

I know i do have a problem with anxiety throughout this whole ordeal but i think a lot of it is theough frustration as I am suffering without any sort of explanation.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to communicate with me smile

      Thanks

My UTIs seem to be caused by e-Coli. The antibiotic that now works for me is Nitrofurantoin. Once that was known, I've been able to ask for a repeat prescription when I've had a subsequent UTI.

You could ask if that has been - or should be - tested for.

Thats good thinking is that.  Would e-coli cause the burning on the skin in my genital area as this seems to be the more persistant symptom at present?  Sorry in advance if its a daft question!

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. My UTIs only cause burning sensation internally. I have no experience of external skin being affected. By the way, whatever is causing it, it's probably irrelevant which organism - the 'burning' is probably just another symptom and may be your body's individual reaction to whatever condition you have.

Just an update for you Agony Uncle,

Ive gone about my usual business today with no change in routine.

Ive had the severe skin burning through the night forcing me to have to come home from work early (I work nights as a welder).

I got in the shower this morning and noticed a bit of reddening on the outer tip of foreskin.  Didnt think much of it and used a hairdryer on lowest setting from a distance to dry the area to prevent irritation from towel.

Ive been to the toilet this evening and the redness looks to have worsened and looks very moist with a few lumps beginning to appear.

The lymph node in my left groin is sticking out like a sore thumb and i can feel it stinging if i bend or put pressure on my groin.

I tried to see my GP today but was told all appointments had been allocated for today so now have to wait until Monday.

My foreskin feels very sensitive and is sensitive to the touch and the progression of the reddening today alone has put me into panic due to the severity of symptoms over the past few days.

I really dont know what to do, say or think at this moment in time.

      Thanks

That does sound very difficult for you. I hope you can get the GP appointment you need soon and that you get good treatment. Good luck.
