Genital herpes and period

Hi!

I have been diagnosed with HSV-1 when I was a child and a few years ago it started to flare up also on my private parts (non sexually transmitted since I haven't had sexual relations back then...)

The outbreak has happened for the fifth time in my life as of right now, but this time it flared up during my period, so I do not know what to do...

The sore is located on my upper part of right labia and I would like to know, if it's okay for me to use tampons (can I get it transmitted to other parts by inserting one?), because I am afraid, that a pad and underwear would be too much of a barrier for my herpes to let heal properly and that period blood could worsen the herpes or delay the healing process...

I also took some Valacyclovir tablets, but until they start to work, I would really appreciate it, if anyone would share their knowledge/experience...
