Genital Herpes HSV-2 IgG blood test question. Need Help!

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had unprotected vaginal sex with a girl, then 3 days later took the HSV-2 antibodies blood test (IgG) and it came back as positive. Is it possible in just 3 days time for the antibodies to develop and show a positive result on an IgG blood test?

I've had unprotected sex with multiple partners this year, but I'm trying to figure out if the HSV-2 I contracted was from this most recent girl.

Again, thank you in advance for any information anybody can share. I've tried to research this question multiple times and cannot find any definitive answer.

A positive Elisa/Igg test after 3 days means that your body has come in contact with hsv2 prior to your recent sexual event. It takes anywhere from 6 - 16 weeks for the human body to build antibodies, therefore a positive after 3 days means you already had it or caught it within the last 6 months or longer. Are you experiencing any symptômes ? If so à swab test on a sore would confirm the résult. If you have no lesions at all, then I would retest by Igg(Elisa) in 4 months again

Thanks Steven, huge help! No symptoms at all.

The only thing I can think of is feeling a little itchy as of late ever since I received the results of being positive about 5 days ago. I think it's from all the stress of realizing I'm going to live with HSV-2 now. sad but I know it should pass, before that I Was completely asymptomatic

Yeah i think your itching is stress related, I would continue living life as you did, just keep in mind that you can transmit it to others sexually without knowing, even if you are asymptomatic. The feelings you have will pass, you are not alone. 80? of the population has either one strain or the other (hsv1 or hsv2) and don't even know it.

Detectable antibody levels don't happen that fast, so a positive at 3 days means you already had it at least 2-3 months before, possibly many months, even years. Can't say anything more beyond that. What was your score, incidentally? Also, you'd better wrap it up and be more careful from now on, as you can certainly pass it on to others, plus gHSV2 increases your odds of acquiring HIV if exposed.

My score was a 3.64, categorized as "High" on the test results I received. I'm asssuming I'm pretty contagious right?

      Definetly condoms from here out.

Actually, that's not very high, but in the positive range. How did you score for HSV1? They usually test the two together, but separately. If you caught it only a couple of months ago or so, let's say, then you are even more infectious within the first year.

HSV1 completely "negative with no signs of antibodies" the test results said. So I guess that's a good thing! Thanks for all your help fetus, it's much appreciated by myself and I'm sure many many others in the same position.

I only asked because a 3.64 with no symptoms ever *could* be a false positive *if* you had pre-existing HSV1, except that you apparently don't. Although positive, that is not a very high IgG score. If you test again a few months later and your IgG is much higher, then you can assume that the infection is 'recentish' (but definitely not from the 3-day partner).

Great info. I will be testing again for both hsv 1/2 and also hiv in 3 months. I just wish it would be a false positive like it never happened lol. But life gives you lemons sometimesrolleyes haha
