Genital Herpes Type 1!

Hello, so I found out I had genital herpes type 1 about 4 years ago. I am now 22 about to be 23 in August and I should probably know how to handle this situation but I don't and it just torments my mind. Back in 2013, I had just broken up with someone not due to the situation but because of the age difference and I found out right after about this condition. We sat down and talked about it and he got tested he came back negative, he was really understanding and supportive about it. We stayed as friends. However the point now is that I have been going on dates almost every weekend with this guy for about 4 months now and I just can't find the words, the right moment and the right place to tell him that I have ght1. I'm stuck on how to even start the conversation, how to explain to him what it is assuming he don't know and many people to be honest are not very much educated about it. People usually just assume is due to messing around over and over. Just this past weekend I asked him if he liked me and he said he does but if I'm completely honest I was drunk and I haven't seen him since so we haven't talked about it again, not even through text but I'm guessing is because he is shy or idk. I guess I just need help handling this situation. Even though we are not serious like bf/gf I want it to be more and I don't want to loose the chance of finally being with such an amazing man. Please help, thank you.

Two-thirds of the population carry HSV1 somewhere, usually orally and without symptoms, which is more infectious than having HSV1 genitally. I wouldn't even worry about it. If necessary, just casually say you carry the cold sore virus without specifying where. He may carry it himself, as people don't typically test for it. Use condoms, and if you notice tingling or a sore, avoid intimate skin contact.

In terms of presentation and outbreak progression, yes, but not in terms of outbreak frequency and transmission risks, etc. Those with symptomatic genital HSV2 typically experience more outbreaks on average, whilst genital HSV2 is more infectious and easily transmitted than genital HSV1.
