Some people are carriers with no symptoms, or at least no recognisable symptoms. That sounds like the case with you. Also, you did not say which type you have. If Type 1 and you were confirmed positive by IgG, then the infection could well be oral, which is very common and nothing much to worry about, especially if you are asymptomatic.

I would also like know what happen if type 2 is caught in da mouth and how bad is a break out or what can that look like if you can help with that

It is unusual to acquire Type 2 orally, but in the rare case that you did/do and experience symptoms, it would just look like a normal cold sore. Also, it would next to never recur or shed. Oral Type 2 is amongst the least infectious type/site combinations.

Then that is presumed to be genital, since Type 2 has an extremely strong preference for the genitals over the oral area. Even the CDC guidelines state this (i.e., HSV-2 IgG positive without symptoms can be presumed to be genital). I nevertheless answered your question about oral Type 2.

Oh okay cause I saw a lot of pic and that scared the hell out of me and I just find out a week ago and I don't know how I got it...I just know I had to have it for about 3months because I havnt had any sexual content since then and I didn't get any type of outbreak that I know of I was just getting a normal annually test done so I know I could of had it for long time and not know I'm just upset because I find out they don't really test people for that in a normal std test

Yes, that's true and I can understand the shock. Do you have the lab results? If so, do you know your index score? Was it the IgG test for both HSV types?

No I dont have that...what does that tell you ?

It would tell you whether you had the right test done (IgM is not reliable), and whether your positive result is borderline (potentially questionable) or definite.

It's not impossible, but the odds of it happening are low.

I don't want to speculate, so best to wait for your results. It may not even be herpes for all you know. If you were swabbed while you still had fresh sores, it should hopefully produce reliable results. Herpes lesions can be tiny and difficult to see, especially down below. I only ever notice a swollen area, sometimes a tiny bump (may be a blister; can't always tell), other times just an area that feels sore to the touch or when I wipe, although my first outbreak was more obvious (found a couple of canker sore-like ulcers tucked away, painful urination).

I'm just having a hard time accepting the possible diagnoses, and since it didn't follow the more "classic" symptoms I'm used to with HSV 1 I was sure hoping it could've been anything else.

I'm just confused why I didn't have more "protection" from my HSV 1 that is a very old infection. Also not sure who gave who the infection in my situation. If it's been in my body all along then have I given it to him with no visible outbreaks until now? Or would this seem to be something that has recently come into our lives? I'm not being a crazy gf yelling at him that he cheated on me or anything, I just want to have a better understanding of how we have come to be dealing with this and I do feel horrible if I've had this and didn't know and now passed it onto him unknowingly.

Established Type 1 *should* protect against acquiring Type 1 elsewhere, but it does not protect against Type 2. But like I said, I'd rather not speculate and just wait for your test results. Working out who gave what first is tricky. Depends on if it's even herpes, which type, and IgG antibody status (but not so helpful in the case of Type 1, since you will test positive). When do you get your results back?

In a few days I hope. The blood test got pushed from today until tomorrow, but if this is a newer infection I'm guessing I could get a false negative. Dr has me on 1000mg Valtrex twice a day too, I think I read that could compromise the blood test. If it did come up negative I will definitely re test when more anti bodies would be present. I just realized that would possibly answer my question... If the antibodies aren't yet present on the blood test would that mean it is more likely to be a new infection?

Does anyone else get the symptoms of itching and/or pain in other parts of your body? When the affected area was itchy, I also felt itchy all around my bottom and thigh area with no sores there. Now that the area is super painful I have pain radiating in the same spots with no visible sores.

I really hope it's true that any recurrent outbreaks are not as bad as the first, this is so painful, and so far on day 9 with no releif in site. At least with a cold sore it is usually mostly healed up by a week.

Yes, if you test negative for IgG but are confirmed by swab to have herpes, then that means it's a brand new infection. Nerve-related symptoms below the belt (e.g., back of thighs) are common, especially with the first outbreak. Recurrences are definitely milder for most people. First outbreaks can be awful, marked by more lesions, pain and other symptoms, plus around 3 weeks to full recovery. In comparison, recurrences can be a single lesion, no other major symptoms, and gone within a week.

The chance is only high if your partner has genital HSV-2 and was experiencing an outbreak or shedding at the time.

Not necessarily. Infection requires shedding, sufficient volume to infect and opportunity. As a result, herpes does not pass with each instance of sex. People can go for years with a positive partner and not get it, or can be very unlucky and get it after just one time. It really depends.
