GERD and allergens, are they connected?

Good morning, I am new to this site, and feel a bit lost, both with the technology, and my symptoms!

I have had acid reflux all my life, wrongly diagnosed as a child with pain between the shoulder blades, as a bad mattress! Fast forward over 50 years, and I continue to have that pain, tender sternum and reflux, particularly at night. I don't really get indigestion. I find that GPs aren't very knowledgeable when it comes to digestive health, although I appreciate it is very much a "specialist" area. I have been sent away on many occasions with Esomeprazole, and Ranitidine. The Ranitidine was stopped by my GP due to some questionable side effect problems that have recently come to light. I find Esomeprazole doesn't make much difference, even when I have bought Nexium over the counter, which is alarmingly expensive! I do watch my diet, avoiding tomato products, spicy food and, sadly, white wine. Although, for some reason, red wine isn't so bad.

Now I have found recently that during the early summer months that my GERD is worse, more mucous, snotty nose, a sore/dry and tight throat and tight chest. I have never suffered from hay fever, but, I wonder, does years of acid in the throat cause the allergens to make it more sensitive? I have had endoscopies in the past, which just revealed a "tide line" of acid, but never a cause. I am seeing a consultant next month to discuss my GERD, but just wondered if anyone else had ever experienced anything like this? Many thanks.
