GERD or Acid Reflux ? Please help

Hi all , so for months I've been drinking 3/4 drinks a night anything from wine to cider or spirits etc I've always been a drinker but lately after a breakup it's like 5 nights a week. Never in day always night.

Last month one morning i had swollen throat, lump feeling in my throat, and dry throat(not sore) it went away after a day or two of me stopping alcohol. Now a month later it's the same after I started up the drinking again.. is it a coincidence or related to the excessive consumption? Dr Google says its Gerd of acid reflux. im only in my 30s fairly healthy bit overnight. Oh and i will be cutting down massively now! lansoprezole has been helping me too. can anyone help ? thankyou

You have the classic symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux...ie lpr or silent reflux. It's when acid comes up and irritates your throat....it usually isn't accompanied by heartburn. the throat clearing is caused by mucus that forms to protect against the acid. It is treated with proton pump inhibitors and "lifestyle" changes. no alcohol, no caffeine, no spicy foods no carbonated beverages. A dreadfully bland diet. Check out the Stanford University treatment protocol online.
