Gerd or is it something else?

I started off around 8/9 weeks ago with quite bad indigestion and mild heartburn, although I have been taking the full dose of omeprozole for years as I know I have a hiatus hernia as well.

I then started having the feeling of something stuck in my larynx/top of chest. over the last 3 or so weeks, the thing in my throat feels like it's getting bigger to the point I cannot lay down as I choke, It also feels like it is suffocating me even when sitting up. I can hardly eat as it hurts to swallow and have lost my appetite anyway. I have also lost half a stone in just over a week. I feel constantly sick and unwell and if I speak more than a few sentences, my voice goes. I do not have a cough though. I am unable to sleep with out sleeping tablets and sleep practically sitting upright.

I spend the day feeling exhausted and feel extremely tired constantly.

I have been given a two week referral for a throat camera and am having that Tuesday, I am afraid it could be cancer or am I overreacting? 😢

hi Heather sorry your are feeling like this, it can be scary and cause health anxiety. im no expert but it sounds exactly the way mine started, the lump in the chest / throat that feels as if its gonna close up, then the hoarseness and constantly clearing your throat. you are probably making your symtoms seem worse because its on your mind 24/7 look up online theres loads of other remidies you can take to ease your symtoms . i feel sorry for you cause it drives you crazy and takes over your every thought . you are loosing weight because you arent eating your usual meals, and not sleeping cause your worrying . take it easy and go get your endoscopy im sure you have reflux and you will be given the correct medicine for it. stop thinking the worse thats what makes us ill xx

hi there. sounds familiar to me. all ur symptoms are exactly same as mine. i was diagnosed last 2015 with a large hiatal hernia thru endoscopy. also have gastritis and mild esophagitis. have been taking 30mg lansoprazole daily for almost 6 years now. just take it easy and go on with ppi. if you worry too much then stress will make the acid worse. that could be silent refux caused by the hiatal hernia. go ahead with ur endoscopy. hope u get over ur worries.

    Hi Heather94,

I know our mind is overactive every time we go for test. I used to think I had esophageal cancer as I had been having difficulty with swallowing these past months and I still do. I went for endoscopy test and barrium test and they were fine. I don't know what I have and doctors think it's in my head. It's very frustrating because no one believes me. I am still scared that I have achalasia or dysmotility of esophagus. On top of it, I also have a chronic constipation. I had let my anxiety spun out of control. A few times, my chest hurt when I ate. My whole body was hurting. I thought I had MS or Als. I cried almost everyday.

Long story short, anxiety can make you believe you have all kinds of sicknesses. It worsens your symptoms. I know a lady who have hiatus hernia and acid reflux like you. She's been in and out of the hospital quite often. She's been on meds for over 10 years. However, her acid reflux went away when she started doing meditation everyday. It doesn't hurt to try.

    You're in my prayers.

    Best of luck to you!
