Getting better

I am currently feeling a good bit better. I still have headaches some a little problem getting to sleep and random muscle aches and sometimes tire easily , but all and all my brain fog has been clearing and im able to do much more stuff. I can golf cut the grass and such but i was told i had gastritis probably from the mono but i am having trouble putting weight back on. I usually weigh 155-160 and i am now stuck at 140 and can not seem to make it go up. I eat healthy take my vitamins but it does not seem to get me anywhere. Does anyone have any tips.

hey Josh that’s awesome! I too got gastritis in the beginning and had an endoscopy to confirm it. What helped me the most was taking DGL chewables. And every time my stomach acts up I start taking them again and it calms it right back down. As far as putting on weight – can you do shakes and add fats and protein to it? Sometimes that can help.

hi JOSH
glad youre on track
im on month 7 and still really struggling/beat up^^
i have had issues as well with weight-
ive lost 25 lbs through all this
i am keeping it steady now and have to force calories to maintain-
what ive found is taking many teaspoons/tablespoons of coco oil/extra virgin olive oil/and flax oil helps keep me healthy. Trying to eat clean while sick and keep on good weight has been hard-i dont wanna eat junk to add lbs/
i also put butter on a baked potatoe+olivevoil
adding in oils has helped a ton-
avocados^^
that keeps me steady too-
i pour organic cream to on frozen wild blueberries like ice cream with no sugar
whole fat plain yogurt-
whole fat plain kefir
no sugar***
those things a long with unlimited almonds/nuts
have helped so much.......
I eat unlimited fruit/mostly citrus and i drink a lot of raw juice
adding carrot juice to your lunch will put weight on-i drink it alone
but i know a man who lifts weights and when he wants to add pounds he juices and eats a ton
calories i guess.....good sugars too^*^
good luck and glad youre feeling better!

I am doing the yogurt probiotic a lot of fruit fish and chicken green leafy vegetables trying to eat a bunch but i also have a hiatal hernia which it is bad to over eat which makes the food come back up in your throat it is just hard to eat enough and not eat to much. I will try to add some more oils. into my diet. Right now my favorite is sweet potato with olive oil rubbed on it then load it with butter.

Hi Josh,
So pleased to hear that things have been looking up and that you have generally been feeling much better. Hoping too that the gastritis can settle and that this be a symptom that fades away with the others of mono, remember it can be normal for some symptoms to try to linger but they do go away eventually, so don't panic. Taking one or two probiotics each day and peppermint can be helpful for the stomach, hoping this settles as it sounds like such a not nice thing at all.
Hoping that you can feel more settled with your weight too. The main thing is that you're not continuing to lose weight, your body has been through such a rough time with mono and it can take a while to find its balance again. Sounds like some good advice from Starr, sometimes some herbs can also help with keeping the weight off so it could well be there is nothing at all to be concerned about and it's just as a result of the supplements you're taking. Amino acids I think can be a good one to take for bulkening or building up your system, but again I'm no expert just going on my limited knowledge of these things.
Keep us posted as to how things are going and really pleased that you are seeing signs of improvement- believing that you are going to keep improving until you feel back to full health again!

Glad things are getting better for you Josh! 😃 I had IBS prior to mono but now have something else on top of it. I think it caused gastritis with me too. It has progressively been getting better. I have been living mostly my normal life for months with a few down days. I am 10+ months since diagnosis. Right now I am in a 4 day relapse. I still have internal vibrations every morning on waking and during my relapses I struggle with sleep but when I get almost 6 hours that is awesome. Did you experience chest gas as part of the gastritis?
I have lost a total of 24 pounds. I started at 149.....now I usually weight in about 125 or 126. I will make strides and gain a couple and then if I don't keep my calories up it goes back down so I am just trying to accept that this might be my new normal and if I ever gain then that is bonus. I am a healthy weight now and not underweight so I just keep that in mind. Are you a healthy normal weight for your height? If so I wouldn't worry about gaining.....just maintain while you are getting your health back and when you are once again at full health then maybe start thinking of what you can do to gain. Remember......mono ravages your body and it needs time to heal.

Hey Wendy,
Just wanted you to know was thinking about you and very much hoping that these vibrations symptoms can settle down they sound so horrible to deal with, it's so hard when you can't get a sleep. I've found cayenne pepper and chamomile really good herbs for taking for relaxing your body and nervous system and getting a good sleep, maybe something worth looking into - just hoping you feel so much better soon.
Remember it can be into that second year with mono before things start to really improve, so don't lose hope or give up - it can be normal for it to take this extended time then make a full recovery Wendy. I still believe you are going to get back to good health again, things inside this first year can be intense and horrible but there is hope beyond this and healthy life again after mono, even when it's so intense and long-lasting - so hang in there Wendy still rooting for you.
Keep monitoring your weight too is a wise thing, if the weight can stabilise that is a sign of progress, it can take a while for your body to find its balance again after this thing so very much hoping it all settles down soon - stay strong Wendy, I believe you have been through the worst times of this and that better times are ahead for you...

Thanks Craig. I tried chamomile tea when I was really sick and it helped but I am allergic to rag weed so the tea really messed with my sinuses. Which is sad because it did help. The internal vibrations do suck. I am just doing everything at this point to address all the symptoms and see what I can do to remedy them. I am getting better.....all the time. My relapses aren't as bad etc.
I really appreciate your kind words. 😃

That must be so frustrating Wendi if you found chamomile tea was helping but couldn't take it because of allergy....wondering if there could be anything else with similar properties to that without any ragweed. Maybe someone out there can offer some advice or help if they know of anything I hope?
I remember too how progress can feel like it is very painfully slow with this virus, recovery can be gradual or it can come in fits and starts, with steps forward and then standing still and then going a little backwards and a big bit forwards, it can be a real rollercoaster and I know you don't need me to tell you!
Hang in there Wendi, still believing that you are getting through this and that a big step forward is on its way for you, the one that finally breaks through the barrier of this thing and leads to full recovery. Thinking about you! God is good!
