Getting concerned

Posted , 7 users are following.

I don’t recall when finroids were discovered but I have had very heavy periods for about 9 years. No doctors have ever ordered any tests beyond blood work and ultrasound. My last blood test was okay.

However, immediately after the test, I had a VERY heavy period.  I’m concerned that I lost too much blood. I don’t want birth control pills but I’m not sure what other options there are. I don’t want a procedure that could indice early menopause either.

I don’t care that I have fibroids. i’m concernd about my periods being too heavy.

    Hi Lynn

Sorry to hear of your issues. Had similar, it’s a long & boring story but eventually found very sympathetic gynae. He prescribed tranexamic acid to reduce the bleeding. This has made life more bearable & manageable. Hope it may do the same for you. All the best x

You are right to be concerned. Over time, excessive bleeding made me chronically anemic. I was always out of breath, forgetful, tired grumpy, and my hair thinned. Also, I started having bouts of bacterial vaginosis every other week, and yeast infections the week in between from the antibiotics. I recently got an abdominal myomectomy and I am finally liberated.

I am curious about your myomectomy?  I have very large fibroids...ans am afraid they are going to go right for a hysterectomy, which I am totally against.  Any information you can give me would be appreciated..

      Hi shelley68314

I had 13 fibroids 6 of them approx the size of Idaho potatoes and smaller ones. All were either intramural or submucosal. My uterus was an 18 week preggy size. I bled like a water hose. Every doctor except the one I visited prescribed hysterectomy over a 13 year period. I refused. Then I found this one on the US west coast who promotes "organ conservation" and for my 45 years of age he did not think hystrectomy was even something to recommend based on other increased health risks. I got a complication free abdominal Myomectomy. He was my 8th opinion. Listen to your body. I would have given you his info but this forum does not allow that I would not post my comment. Use google. "it is your friend."

The tranexamic act worked for me too. But for me my fibroid was beginning to cause other problems so I had a uterine fibroid embolization (ufe) to an extent I know that worked but not sure if it fully worked yet to shrink the fibroid. We shall see in a couple of months.

I was prescribed mfenamic tablets and tranexemic to take together, totally reduced bleeding!! I was completely unaware I had large fibroid. Month later was admitted to a&e with severe abdominal pain and was scanned (for kidney stones!) and they discovered grapefruit sized degenerating fibroid. Getting hysterectomy in 2wks. Had awful bleeding with the degenerating fibroid but was told to keep taking the mfenamic acid x3 daily and that totally stopped the bleeding. Hope you get sorted, I’m still suffering from low iron, takes a while to build that up again and the lethargy is just pants.

So many doctors are ao quick to want to perform a hysterectomy. NO WAY!  However, I pay a LOT of money for health insurance but most doctors don’t accept it. I didn’t really know what kind or which specific doctors J’d need ro see when I chose this insurance. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do until I can change it next year. There really isn’t anybody in my area who takes it  and if I need to seek several opinions, I can’t unless I pay cash. Over $700/mo for insurance AND i’m going to have to pay to see doctors!
