Getting Diagnosed

Hi all, this question probably gets asked a lot, but i'd like your opinion on my symptoms and wheather or not you think it is Fibro?

Im 25, generally fit and healthy, i have Asthma and other allergies, im 5ft8 and 11stone.

I joined a gym this time last year and had been going every few days to buid myself up, i took it very slowly. Fast forward to August, where my job became very demanding, i was doing 10 hour days, and was still going to the gym for swimming.

One morning in August i woke up and tried to get out of bed and my back went - i couldnt straighten up, ever since then i have had this continual dull ache in my back that sometimes feels like its burning or stabbing. It has progressed down my right leg, and my leg tends to give way at times - and some days i ache all over.

im unable to sleep for long due to the pain, which only worsens the fact that ive never really slept that well since my teenage years (Dr's told me id grow out of it) I never feel refreshed no matter how long i sleep for.

I feel very low, and have suffered with depression in the past. Recently ive noticed that im struggling to remember things, or take on new information, and my reactions and decision making seem slower - which is getting rather scary and fustrating

GP has only given me pain relief (codine) and an anti inflamitry, and referred to Physio. Pain is still very high. I have mainly been looking into back problems and how to fix that, but with the onset of these new symptoms and adding all the small bits together ive come across Fibro

Do you think i have a form of it, or could it be just a really bad back that needs investigating further? Im seeing my GP this week and will be informing them of my thoughts...

thanks in advance

No, you have trapped your sciatic nerve and the periformis muscle in your bum presses on it causing that dreadful pain down the leg and weakness feeling like it's giving away

I appreciate the pain is dreadful but codeine isn't strong enough and you need a proper anti inflammatory

To help you can stand facing a kitchen side and standing straight up raise leg up behind you if you have someone to massage the bottom this will help

however your best plans are to see an osteopath or chiropractor as there's a realignment issue with you pelvis don't worry no need to panic these can be googled you need a registered one

sometimes it helps to raise the affected leg with a slight heel raise about the thickness of a thick beer mat

One of the main symtoms of accessing for Fibro are the 16 pain points which can be looked up on google.  I think you need at least 11 of them.

Remembering things isn't because of a bad back.  If you do try the Oestopath route you will know it's not because of a bad back because after a number of treatments it will not make any difference.

It is worth talking to your GP about the idea of Fibro.  Although some Gps aren't totally able to say whether you have or haven't because Fibro and M.E. are a specialism.

Good Luck hope it's not Fibro or M.E.

from the sound of it its a trapped sciatic  nerve. find a good chiropracter .sort you out.

in the meanwhile do some very gentle stretches  when i get it i do a lunge leaving forward on my good leg and stretching out the other leg behind and then alternate

just a couple of times each side and very gentle ones.

normaly works for me , plus i rub magneisum oil in to the area several times a day.apply hot and cold packs , if your not careful with codien you can become constapated and the your have back pain even worse. take them as little as possiable.

Sounds like Sciatic nerve issues, however...ask your doc for a referral to a Rhumatologist who hopefully will give a correct diagnosis, sometimes it takes years for a diagnosis...sooo many Symtoms each if us have sooo many different ones..and soo many different meds that work fir different people...there is also the 16 point trigger spots that a doc can give you.....sometimes the GP docs just don't know enough about Fibro to even test us this way...lots of blessings to you Emma..hope you find out really soon..at least you will know what meds are right for you..:-) xxx

this is a great site for  information...

Hi emma95680. It sounds like fibro to me. The burning pain is a common symptom. I have burning everywhere apart from my head. The start of my fibro was exactly how you described it. I was diagnosed10 years ago. At the moment I am also having a flair up with RA plus fibro.

Hi Emma, yes, sounds like sciatica to me too but your GP may refer you to a rheumatologist . Please do keep us updated on your progress. By the way there are actually 18 fibro trigger points (9 pairs) and I have severe pain in the all :-(. Good luck x
