Getting home from hospital and support once home

Can anyone share details of how they got back home from hospital after their operation? I'm a bit concerned about this as my husband doesn't drive and I don't know how easy it will be to get into a taxi. did the hospital provide anything, or did you get back under your own steam.

Also as my husband is increasingly unwell - really bad timing - I'm wondering about how to access support if we need it afterwards. I'm getting to the point of wondering if I should cancel my own operation while hubby has various tests that the consultant has recommended. Quite stressed out! We never imagined being in this situation, but we have no family near by.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Angela

You can book an ambulance to take you home from the hospital, but do this in advance if you can!

Thanks Patricia. Things clearly vary enormously between trusts. Nothing doing over in East Yorks!

    Hi Angela

I have recently had a Sigmoidoscopy and a Colonoscopy, both without sedation.

Basically, once you have put your cloths on after the procedures, you are up and about.

The procedure is painless, and you can even watch it on the TV monitor if you wish.

Best of luck to your hubby.

Oops ! got mixed up between Colonoscopy and Endoscopy (different ends).

I have also had an Endoscopy, without sedation, but they gave me a Banana flavoured drink before the procedure which reduces any feelings in your gullet.
