Getting into car

Going into day 6 of Thr of left hip. All was going great until I went to get into the car last night. I find that the most challenging. I got my operated leg in but could not seem to life myself in so husband helped and something twinged in my butt area. Now I have knee and lower back pain. I can still walk and did not dislocate but feel I have taken a step backwards. I was hardly taking pain meds now I have to regularly. I think it might be muscle related. Anyone else experience this!!

Getting in and out of a car can be quite difficult. I hope you've not done anything to your hip and that it will gradually improve.

Shari, I’m 5 weeks post on my second anterior THR. First was easy.

I too feel lots of discomfort now after I started walking a mile a day. I feel it in my buttocks, back of thigh sometimes but always side of thigh and knee. Now it goes down my shin into top of my leg.

Cannot do my walking anymore. ??  It feels like something is pulling. I’ve been like this for a week. Mostly sit for a bit and a lot of resting and ice. Can only take half a pain pill and it doesn’t work much. Called doc and they said go to urgent care if needed or wait for next appt in 2 weeks. 😩

Hope you do better soon. Remember ur only 6 days from surgery.

Hey Shari I'm sorry to hear about your pain. I do remember while in the hospital the physical therapist teaches how to safely get in and out of a car with a mock car and the heights adjust. I'm in the U.S . It will take some time to heal and also get back active. Please be patient with yourself and listen to your Dr.'s and Physical therapist and most importantly your body. Rest do all your exercises and embrace the healing process. It does get better. Blessings! Teresa

My Physiotherapist  in the hospital was useless! I am in Canada and everything else was good. She spent 5 min. with me and gave me a book to follow. I have made an appointment with my local Physiotherapist now. I am feeling better as I have been icing and heat on my back.

No they didn't. I am writing a letter about this and lack of attention from her.

Definitely should have taught you. I will try to explain but i bet there is a video on You Tube. Make sure seat is as low and pushed as far back as it can go.have one hand on the dash and one on the top of the seat where the headrest would be. Then slide your bum onto the seat and slide to either side fto get your outside leg in.

I used the old plastic carrier bag trick - put it on the seat, and you can slide in, out and around very gracefully.
