Getting my tonsils out in a few months as an adult help

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have had tonsillitis 4 times in 6 months and the doctor thinks its best to get them out but says it is very painful. I've been through plenty of painful procedures in my life so it would be nice to know what to expect.

One question I'd love answered is...

Is the pain of having your tonsils out the same as when you are in the worst part of tonsillitis?

but longer?

Since I am not a nurse I can not answer from that perspective. But from what I understand the problem with having tonsils out in adulthood it because they bleed more. So perhaps you need to avoid pain meds like aspirin since it is also a blood thinner. Also increasing green vegetables with vitamin K can reduce bleeding. Do as you are instructed and you will be fine.

Hi I had my tonsils out when I was 18 . Yes it is painful worse than the worst tonsillitis. However once it's done you never have to worry about having days off work/college, missing holidays or days /evening out. I had mine taken out over 20 yrs and have never had tonsillitis symptoms again. No pain no gain. Good luck x
