Getting off Atenolol

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am trying to get off Atenolol. I have been on it for 3 years. 25 mg a day. Now down to half for last 4 weeks. not sure how to taper from here. I tried stopping a few days ago but high heart rate and extreme anxiety. Should I go to 1/4? if so how long and what do I do fro there? Cardiologist is not being helpful with the weaning down. Thank you to anyone who can assist. I regret the day I ever took Atenolol.

I too am going to try to wean off atenolol. Im only on 25 mg once a day. Ive been on it since June 29 of this year. But I was on propranolol before that. How did you do going down to half ? (12.5).Did you feel ok? Do your pills have score lines? mine dont so Im not sure if I can cut them in half. I plan on going to half of 25 mg (12.5)then half of the 12.5 .(6.25); Then take the 6.25 for about 10 days . Then every other day for 10 days. . Im not sure that will work or not. Please let me know how you do weaning off of atenolol.

      Hello Cathrine,

I so know how you are feeling. I have had high anxiety, insomnia, pins and needles in hands, lower arms, feet, lower legs, sweats, then have to put on a jacket I get so cold. I was off of atenolol for 20 days in June but went back on because it was so tough. I then decided 31 days ago to get off and stay off. It has been a rough 31 days. While I wouldn't wish this on anyone, it so helps to know I am not alone. Wishing you and all of us the best.
