Getting out of bed

Posted , 9 users are following.

im on to my second day and having trouble getting out of bed. They gave me a lasso type thing to grab my foot and lift, but to be honest...I cannot do it sad the pain is just too much but they keep pushing me and I feel like I should be getting it. Walking with a walker pretty well, it's just this getting out of bed stuff that has got me 😔any suggestions friends?

I just used the tie belt from my bathrobe and then I even had it in bed with me when I got home. It simply forms a handle for lifting like you would lift a shopping bag?  I'm fairly sure that by the end of the day you will get it.

Well ill done on the walking by the way!  That's excellent news.

    Hello

I am on day 11 and can now lift my legs into bed unaided but still with a twinge lol

do your bed exercises and in a few days you will have regained the strength . Exercise exercise exercise

Use your good foot hooked under the ankle of the operated leg and then lift the operated leg out that way. Using the strength in your non operated side. Try to get your lower half off the bed beefy the top half. Hope this makes sense  and it will get better I promise you.

    Hi tammy,

That was one if the hardest things I found in the early days and whilst it did take tremendous effort and it was quite painful, if I gritted my teeth I found I could do it. It'll get easier after a couple of days so keep trying and don't worry, no one is sat there accusing you of not trying hard enough. They know how many people find this difficult in the first few days and trust me, there are lots of people who can't do it.

You can do it, I know you can. Just be patient with yourself 😊

    Hi tammy ....

Same here ...is there a nurse with you? I can't do it either but they

Want you to try .... They have to help me and lift my leg for me ..

They can't leave you by yourself. .

It will get better .... really ... tomorrow you will already feel the ß

    difference ...

Here is hoping with you. ..

Be kind and gentle to yourself ....keep taking nice deep breaths ...

I think that was the hardest thing for the first week. I found in the hospital that leading with operative side worked best for me. I got my bum as far up on the bed as I could sitting diagonally then with the aid of the nurse, swinging both legs together.

You are perfectly normal. No one can lift their leg 2 days post op. It feels like it weighs a ton and it hurts. The nurse is just trying to see what you are capable of. Some nurses are nicer and more helpful than others. Don't let that bring you down or discourage you. Also breathe out when trying to lift your leg, move etc. It helps relax everything. We tend to tense up when we are in pain or anticipating pain. Every day gets it better, sweetie. Ask for what you need- pain meds, water, help getting comfortable. Also, the heel pumps and butt clenches help get those muscles warmed up before you are going to be getting up too.
