getting so hard to live with. What can i do?

Hello, I was wondering if i could find some help here about my very fustrating issue. Ever since i can remember i have had ear issues. Everytime without fail my ears pop when i yawn, they also pop most of the time when i swallow too. I then have to sniff or holdmy nose and sniff to gain my (normal) pressure again. Sometimes it can take hours of popping& unpopping my ears by peforming this maneover to get my right pressure.

The pressure i experience when they pop consists of, loudness of breathing, general loudness, heartbeat sounds.

Sometimes like now i have it bad throughout the whole day i cant even swallow my saliver without them popping . On a bad day they can also pop just by speaking, opening my mouth or even doing nothing atall.(Its only this bad some days or just randomly) i think it may be a possible intolerence, caffiene, allergy, inhalent allergy? i dont know what to start trying and where?

Im finding my problem very hard to live by, it leads me into depressive moods from the fustration of not being able to stabilise pressure. Throughout the day i struggle to concentrate at work due to concentrating on trying not to swallow. Please if you have any help/ diagnosis it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi, sorry for your troubles, i can imagine how hard it is. I'm sufferring from TMJ and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (3 months) and i can't see the end of this hell. And there is no doctor who can understand what to do and how. I heard about Dymista sprey, can you try it? its helpfull for most of the atient with your symptoms. Try it.

Hi Jamieblow123. I sympathise with your problem as I experience pretty much the exact same thing you talk about. Is it worse just after having a cold? Mine is! I have been to lots of ENT docs and they tell me I have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I was ar my wits end recently and began digging deeper! I found out I think I actually have Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. Visit Patulouseustachiantube.net and have a read. Where do you live? There are very few specialists that deal with this but if you think you have it visit your GP and request referral to one of the ENT docs which they list in their website. Good luck. It is an awful situation. I am struggling to work at the moment, but have to as I am self employed and a Driving Instructor. I have pupils with tests booked next month. I cry sometimes as it just gets too much. If I lie down it really helps. Does this help you? My Gp thankfully has referred me tona specialist in the area of Eustachian Tube problems so am hoping to finally get somewhere after all these years!

Hello Buzzards, i really appreciate the reply. You've given me some comfort that its not only me and im not alone.

I have just been to see a ENT specialist at mount vernon, london. However he just seemed to want to get me back out the door. He breifly told me i have a estuchian tube problem and my ear looked deflated(sucked in)?

I would love to know what i have, ENT or PET. In response to your cold problem, i do not have this problem however mine is greatly effected by an undiscovered allergy or intolerance. Thanks again for the reply!

Hi, I have the same thing! I also have TMJ which I'm noticing alot of people with this ear problem also have. Though who knows if they are linked.

Doctors don't seem to know too much what to do about it.

I have read loads about it as I'm a singer. Imagine trying to sing whilst hearing your own breath, heart beat and not to mention the volume of ur voice in your ears!.

The condition is actually called patulous eustachian dysfunction. This is where at times the eustachian tube is abnormally left open.

The trouble is they haven't found much thay might get it to work normally.

They say if u have lots weight it could have caused it.

I've read some articles saying grommets in the ear can help. Or sometimes make it worse.

For a short time fix I find tipping my head upside down gets the tube to close and the problem goes away for a little while.

    something I've read -

Jamieblow123 your symptoms are for PET not eustachian tube dysfunction. ETD would produce dulled hearing and possibly pressure. Your sniffing is closing the eustachian tube. The eustachian tube opens briefly for a fraction of a second (normal function ) when we swallow. In people with patulous eustachian tube the tube remains open and is closed by sniffing, sometimes leaning forward or lying down. Where do you live, UK? If so you should request a referal to one of the specialists listed on the web page I told you about. These are the only ones that deal with it and general eustachian tube problems. I too had the brush off from four ENT docs in my local hospitak.

Print off the info on the website along with the list of consultants and go chat to your GP. That's what I did and got referred (awaiting appointment) to see one of the few that deal with complex Eustachian tube problems. The condition is rare, my GP hadn't heard of it and was grateful I took the info in to discuss.
