I have been on 2x 7.5mg of zopiclone for a few years now and they have worked for me... Now my doctor is forcing me to come down off them even thou this is the last thing I need ..... She has dropped me to 1x7mg and one 3 1/2mg .... I have noticed a big difference in my sleeping pattern , now my head is racing all night and I'm so tired in the day but still can't sleep properly.... Ive even had to turn jobs down due to being exhausted ....She (the doctor) is determind to get me down and off them but I'm not happy with this disission ..... Is there anything I can do to stay on the dose I'm happy on .... Please help.... I don't wanna have to buy them of other people or end up on things stronger like I have done in the past

Hi. Like you i have been forced to come of the Zops. My gp tapered mine off and refused to give me any more even though i was fine on them.  Now she has prescribed Mitrazapine, an anti depressant which i dont really need. Apparently they make you feel drowsy but also groggy the next morning.  All gp`s i think are being advised to withdraw Zopiclone unless really necessary and only for short periods of time. I had been on them for around fifteen years, but i do miss them. Hope you find a good substitute when you eventually  come off them.

Thank you for your reply Vivien ... They really piss me off doctors like this... They just see you for 5 mins and think they know the best for you.... There no better than street dealers ... Play god with our life's.... If zops are that bad why the hell did they give them us in the first place ..... I can't believe they have given you antidepressant for a sleeper .... There like witch doctors

    Hallo Justdman,

I have shared my experience.  Ask the GP to substitute them for Phenergan.  It is an antihistamine and if you are lucky as I was they should really help you.  If you look at my previous postings you will see what I have written.

I was switched from Zop to Mirtazapine 2 months ago and I have to say that the Mirt has worked great for me. Started on 15 mg, which did intially make me drowsy during the day but this wore off after a few weeks. Now on just 4mg at night and sleep well. I've been told to stay on Mirt for 6 months but hope to come off them soon. It is an antidepressant at higher doses ( 30mg) but is used for insomnia at low dose. Worth a try if you can't get Zop.

Hi.    Gp did mention mirtazipine at first but then phenergan.  Sorry to harp on about it as I said it is an antihistamine and I have had no drowsiness during its use and I am not on any sleeping aids now after being a long term zopiclone use.

You can get antihistamines over the counter but phenergan is the brand name and is best prescribed by the gp unless the pharmacist can recommend one.  I only needed 1 tablet not 2 per day.  The gp new it was used as sleeping aid and recommended it to me with excellent results.
