Getting tested, possibly having an outbreak

Hi guys,

I had unprotected sex about 5-6 days ago and started experiencing bumps around my genital area 2days ago. I went to urgent care to get tested and she swabbed my sores but told me that it's likely Herpes. I am extremely paranoid as to when I could have got it, could I have had it for sometime and not realized it or did this one person give it to me? I am so worried about telling this person that I have it and find myself worrying about ever having a normal dating life again. I know that there is such a big stigma around this STD and upon researching I have realized how common it is; but I know that most people are unaware. I feel so bad about myself for letting this happen and I just can't imagine ever finding someone that is okay with me having it in the future. I have also read that it can cause childbirth effects and idk this is all just really scary.

80% of our population has herpes. and it is okay, you can have sex normally and give birth normally as long as you are not having an outbreak. outbreaks can happen once every 3-6 years if you take antivirals

Is it normal to have a tender feeling in my pelvic area; when I press on it it feels almost bruised but there is no physical evidence of bruising.

Also are there any options to heal my open sores, would using flushable wipes help sanitize them safely?

yes that is normal. You will have discomfort for a little while. Take medication your doctor should have prescribed. taking a warm bath with 1/4 cup of baking soda helps. soak for 40 minutes. you can use baby wipes if that is more comfortable for you. there’s also female hygienic wipes that you can use. wear loose fitted clothing. avoid wearing thongs during an outbreak. you just need to be careful since your vagina is at a sensitive state you can easily irritated even more. lavender tea is nice to drink too, it will calm your nerves.
