Getting worse as I get older

I turned 65 in August. Had a decent summer healthwise, for me, anyway, I seem to be having a flareup though. IBS was dormant for several weeks and bam out of nowhere it started up again, so can't get to far from the house! It seems like I hurt all over most of the time. Allergies much worse than they used to be, chronic headache and you know the rest, I'm sure! If you so much as stub your toe,it's like your whole body jumps into the fight and starts hurting. I think I have had fibro all my life, but was diagnosed about 6 or 7 years ago. Thanks for letting me vent! My friends and family are wonderful, but I know they really don't get it! Neither do I! LOL

I did really well all summer but in the last 3-4 weeks I'm back to square one. I am actually in bed now after calling in to work sick. I made dinner for 12 people last night for my fathers birthday and boy am I suffering for it now. I hurt all over and as weak as a kitten also. My doctor said people with fibro tend to do better in warmer climates so I think the cold weather is bringing it on now. If I had the money I would move to a country that's always hot just so I don't feel like this every day. I'm totally fed up!

I have lived by myself for years and if I had to even make someone a baloney sandwich I would die!!lol I agree about the warm weather. What I notice, too is that the slightest thing I do that is out of the ordinary will have my body beating up on me! This can be something as small as walking in a different pair of shoes, or pulling a few weeds, crocheting , or just anything. Today I am at the point where I can hardly stands clothes touching me, even. I am always incredibly sensitive to touch, and even someone giving me a pat on the back and I will feel the sensation hours later! Just makes me feel insane! Just when I think I have a lid on it some weird new symptom will pop up that will become part of my life! And I do mean weird! Yes, I understand about wishing to be in a warmer clime. My  cousin is 63 and also has degenerative disc along with fibro. She summed it up by saying that she goes around feeling like she's been in a violent car crash most of the time!

Hi Roy. Yes changes in temp can really affect us Fibro sufferers. Emotional upsets and stress in our lives can also turn us into a big nerve of pain. So in these times Roy, be ever so kind to yourself. Stay warm, take Epsom Salt baths, keep a hot water bottle handy and have a bit of spicy food if you can tolerate it. I know with IBS that can be a problem. I have found that IBS comes on after some real stress or emotional upheaval. Disappointments, expectations not relised, a conflict with a family member, a sense of unworthiness, etc. So many factors that can truly upset us and cause our symptoms to worsen. So take inventory Roy and be your own detective and see if some life situation has had a negative impact on you lately. Talking it out with a trusted friend can really help. We cannot ever change the conduct of someone else, the only control we have in life is of our own reaction to events. I also find that rubbing relexes under my feet help with the IBS, especially in the Colon area of the feet. I also find that I seem to get waves of heat when I am emotional or when I feel physically weak. So you are certainly not alone in your stuggles Roy. Give yourself the attention and nurturing you so need. Men have trouble with that. Wishing you a speedy lessening of your symptoms Roy. Chin up! Tomorrow is always filled with hope. Maggie

Thank you for your kind words! I was in the midst of a hot flash as I read about the waves of heat! When I went through menopause in my early 50's, I breezed through! Well, I sure have them now at 65, usually with an IBS flareup. Thank goodness I retired three years ago, so I don't have the stress of getting somewhere on time, and i can baby myself a bit. I am the only person in the house, but I do have a love of a sweet cat!

So sorry Roy! I thought at first you were a male because of your name. Yes I am 63 and I do get them still on occasion. Especially as I said, when I feel emotional or upset. Good that you are retired my dear. You can nurture yourself much more and distance yourself from all the drama that occurs in the workplace. Good you have a cat also. I am an animal nut! Not balanced when it comes to them. Love them so much. They bring us such joy and contentment. Unconditional love. Wishing you a more pleasant weekend! Maggie Down Under

Hi Roy of course your friends and family don't get it. We do not even get it! My ibs makes me constipated! Most people say theirs do the opposite.

I have suffered from constipation Ibs and then it switched when I all of the sudden had food sensitivity. Out of the blue my over active bladder also came back. Each time it lasts for a few weeks and then stops. I don't know why it starts or stops. It's just another symptom to add to the list.

It is frustrating and sometimes forces me to be on lock down for fear of public embarrassment. Stay strong and hope you feel better soon .
