Getting worse (Zoloft and Clonazepam)...any advice?

Hi all,

I started back on Sertraline (Zoloft) about 5-6 weeks ago (50mg / day).  I had taken this before and remember terrible getting started (was weaned down to 50mg every 5 or so days).  I finally got to see my doctor and he thought I should up to 100mg since I wasn't still doing well (and that is where I started the first time).

This time around the doctor gave me a 2 week prescription for Clonazapam (0.5mg twice a day).  The first week I was taking this, I was doing awesome (playing with kids, eating great, no stomach knots).  I have been off that since Wednesday.  This was the worst weekend by far...Insomnia, feeling weak, no motivation, can't play with my kids, can't eat, stomach knots, etc.

I decided to drop the Sertraline back to 50mg the last few days as well since when I was doing better (after my first depression) I rememeber just taking 50mg/day.  Today I decided to try my Sertraline in the morning and am hoping that will help.

Anyway, I don't ever rememeber going through a weekend like this my first time around.  Is it possible my brain adjusted to the Clonazepam and is in withdrawal?  Is this just the Sertraline kicking in without the Clonazepam?

I am so frustrated as I feel worse than the beginning.

Is this all normal, will it go away?

You might consider increasing the sertraline to a higher dose than you were on before and use the clonazepam sparingly.  Or you could try a different antidepressant.  I hope you find your balance.

Hey. Adam. Please go back to your doctor and discuss your medication before altering the dose yourself.

Antidepressants take time to work and it's important to continue with the dose that they have prescribed rather than dropping back when you think you feel better or the antidepressants may not work effectively.

Unfortunately side effects are common when you start new medications but if you tell your doctor about them I'm sure there are other medications they can prescribe alongside the setraline
