GFR 41, ultrasound says prob KIdney Disease, have enlarged prostate (BPH), hypertension

Greetings!  I'm new to this forum, coming from the Prostate Problems forum because as you can see from my photos, the prostate (renal) ultrasound and (Sudden Onset Urinary Retention) blood tests brought up CKD.

Seeing my uro next week.  In the meantime, a TCM practitioner gave me Cordyceps and Accupressure (on my ears) for kidney and BPH.

... your thoughts?

Bob, can't help re the BPH as haven't had any experience in that direction, being female!  However, CKD-wise, with an eGFR of 41 and your mention of hypertension, just ensure that whatever meds you are taking for the latter aren't actually the cause of the reduced kidney function - in other words, check their possible side effects.  I have experienced reductions in my eGFR and raised creatinine from different BP meds in the past.  Also avoid salt, too much protein especially that of red meat (reduced functioning kidneys find too much protein hard to deal with), all anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, and drink plenty of water.  Hopefully, the Cordyceps will help with the BPH.  Good luck with your Urology appointment and do let us know how you get on.

Thanks for you well-wishes and helpful comments!  I'm only on Flomax for BPH.  My uro initially said that the protein in my urine was likely from the trauma of my Sudden Onset Urinary Retention, the 2 liter trapped and bladder distention, and the catherization (Foley catheter).

Very recently I've opted out of all animal protein.  Even the TCM (Chinese) doctor said "no salt".

      Will update you.

Btw, I'm "clear", in my mind, of the urinary problems, except to shrink the prostate with diet-only (per Dr. Greger, and The Homeschooling Doctor.)

      Cheers!
