    Hello,

Try not to worry.  At 45 your GFR is ok and should not affect your quality of life much.  Your doctor will be able to give you good advice on how to protect your kidney as much as possible and with care, your GFR could remain stable for a long time.  You will need to keep an eye on your blood count and make sure there is enough iron in your diet. You can go on Patient View which allows you to keep an eye on the results of any medical tests.  The hospital should set this up for you.  It is very scary when you first find out.  It should not affect your holiday.  My GFR is 27 and I travel to lots of other countries.  Good luck with your renal appointment.

Yes, you can get it.  I insure with Staysure- it costs more if you have any medical conditions- (I have several).  I'm doing well although my GFR is only 27.  I take an iron supplement and keep an eye on my BP- try to keep it under 140/90. Think it might be a bit of a risk not to mention to the insurance company as it would void your insurance if you had to claim.  Seems a bit unfair as you have not had a diagnosis-not all stage 3 GFR people are diagnosed with CKD according to the NICE guidelines 2014, if their eGFR creatinine is between 45-59 and their eGFRcystatin is more than 60 ml/min AND they have no other marker of kidney disease.

      All the best.
