GH 3 weeks into diagnosis

I had my first cycle since my diagnosis 3 weeks ago. Ive done some research and have found that ur period can bring the outbreak to life again. I have been with the same partner, who I am pretty sure is the one who passed it to me, is it important for him to be taking antibiotics. I called my doctor this time as soon as I felt discomfort and itching. This was the start to hell last time, so I was quick to call and ask for a refill, he doesnt seem to have any symptons. Is it important to finish out all my antibiotic? A friend that has the same as me, genital herpes, said she only takes the antibiotic when she feels it coming on and stops when it goes away. I guess maybe so she has the antibiotic on hand. Anyways, my questions are if my partner should be taking an antibiotic as well, and if I should just take the antibiotic til symptoms pass.

The antibiotics are only if you have an out break. If you don't have an outbreak but continue to take the the pills it won't really prevent it from coming back. I usually only take mines during an outbreak. So if you don't want to run out, just take them once you start to feel a bump coming. Well that's what I do

They are *antivirals*, not antibiotics (HSV is a virus, not bacteria).

Your friend is doing what they call episodic therapy, so antivirals only during the prodrome or start of an outbreak.

As soon as you feel the warning signs or see a lesion, take 500mg valacyclovir (Valtrex) twice daily for 3 days. If you are on one of the other two antiviral meds, I need to check the dosing (not the same as for valacyclovir).

Your partner takes nothing, unless he also has HSV and is starting an outbreak. If he does not have it, I trust you are taking precautions to minimise transmission.

P.S. Menstruation can be a trigger for some women, but not all. Few studies have actually been done on this, but of those that were, interestingly, no correlation was found.
