gHSV1

It's been about 3 weeks since I was diagnosed with genital HSV1. I'd like to hear from others with HSV1 genitally. I've I'm pretty much healed and back to normal from the primary outbreak.. Which was the absolute worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life... Including childbirth. Whew, labor was a walk in the park compared do this crap! Anyways, I've heard and read that type 1 is typically a little less harsh and the outbreaks don't occur as often or severe as type 2. I've only had the one outbreak and I am currently taking one valacyclovir a day to suppress.. Not even sure if I need it but my doctor said I could take one every day for a year and after a year if I have had minimal to no more outbreaks that I may want to consider just keeping it on hand for when or if I feel a recurrent outbreak coming on. So, my question is.. Those if you who have gHSV1, have you suffered from many recurrent outbreaks? Have you not had any after the primary? Just some insight would be great! I know it varies from person to person and no one is the same. I'm just wanting to hear different outcomes with people with hsv1 in the genital area. Thank you!

How did you find out that you have GHSV1? When I went to the doctors I was just told that it was genital herpes, I am still waiting for the swab test to come back though. Once I receive those will I know if I have ghsv1 or 2?

I made an emergency appointment with my gynocologist as soon as I noticed I had sores and not just itchiness. She swabbed several of the sores. I didn't have my results for 5 days. Went in on Monday for the cultures and came back Friday and was told I tested positive for gHSV1. She said it was fairly uncommon to have it in the genitals but it does happen. Most likely it was passed to me through oral sex from someone who has hsv1 orally.. Which makes sense because I started having symptoms 3 days after my encounter which happened to be oral sex. (Sorry little bit much info) she told me hsv1 is a little less aggressive and that the first outbreak is usually horrid.. Which it was. But I feel back to normal now thankfully. I just wondered if anyone else has genital hsv1 here and what their experience with type 1 genitally has been like.

Most genital herpes is simplex 2 simplex 1 is mainly cold sores on the mouth and is mild if genital.

400 million people worldwide have genital herpes simplex 2

1st attack primary is the worst &then fades

over the yrs to nothing 20yrs later no attacks no nothing.

Simplex 2 primary attack blisters everywhere you cant wee properly your swelled up very sore&as i recall 20yrs ago had to sit in baths of cold water but not now

chances are if its terrible pain lots of sores etc is no2

My outbreak was horrendous. I had to have a catheter to urinate for 7 days. When the results came back I was negative for hsv2 but very much so positive for hsv1. My doctor swabbed/cultured several of the sores. They were all fairly fresh as I was at the beginning / height of my outbreak.. Since the tests are so sensitive I wonder if I should be retested for for both again just to make sure it is hsv1 and not no2. But if they are cultured and they are new open sores wouldn't that be accurate?

If im honest i don't know anyone with simplex 1 that has been in a bad way only 2 so you would need to see a doc about it as if you read up on herpes via health mags etc it does say simplex 2 causes the problems not 1

I just found out two days ago that I tested positive for HSV-1 as well. My outbreak was also freakin HORRIBLE. So now worries. But if you're not feeling too sure then do what you need to. I do think the swab is accurate though! I did a swab and blood.

I've read a couple places that when you have hsv1 genitally the first outbreak can almost mimic symptoms of hsv2.. After the initial outbreak there will be very little to no outbreaks and way less severe. This is because hsv1 thrives orally but not so much below the belt because it's not where it prefers to be. I do plan on going back just to be sure though.

I had both done as well and both were positive for 1 but I didn't pay too much attention to the blood test because I've heard they can be inaccurate. The swab was done right on those open sores and some were oozing (so gross) so I was kind of relying on those results. Im going to go back and be retested 4 months from the date I was diagnosed to get counts/levels just to see. But because my outbreak was so severe it just had me a little concerned about it.. I've talked to others though with hsv1 now and they too had terrible primary outbreaks and not one since or one or two with 2 bumps in the first couple months of being diagnosed that caused barley any discomfort but none since. I'm just trying to be hopeful. Any little thing I notice down there is freaking me out though and making me wonder if I should take 2 pills a day for 5 days during an outbreak.. I normally got little pimples down there before (always have had them not big or anything barley noticeable mostly from shaving) but now when I see one I wonder if it's the start of a blister. I'm still a little itchy though and ahhhh I don't know if it's the end or beginning or another. Totally freaked out.

I just been diagnosed with HSV1 and I don't know what to do. I have been in a relationship for 10 years. I had 2 kids with him and never crossed the line in cheat on him. But he was unfaithful to me. I had a regular Pap smear check up in November and I came back with an STD( chymidia). After those results I was devastated and we broke up. And recently I had a feeling on getting a complete scan urine and blood work and I took him along with me and made him get a complete scan (mind you we are not together). And then when I found out that I diagnosed with HSV1 and I am waiting on his results tomorrow. I have never experienced an outbreak or I have never seen him with an outbreak neither. I'm a mother of 3 beautiful kids and now that I am afraid of touching them too much beacause I feel extremely dirty. I spend my whole day reading and educating myself on HSV1. I'm still in shock. I don't know what to do. I feel all sort of emotions. I need help.

I've just gotten over my first outbreak of gHSV1. It was awful. I'm hearing on these boards that it won't be so bad next time or maybe not even recur. Would like to stay in touch with you to compare experiences. I am taking the daily suppressives as well.

I am so new to this and have so many questions. I am beginning to feel normal again. I felt nasty during my outbreak, I had open sores inside my bottom and was frightened of touching myself at all. I've read that soap and water kills this virus and that it cannot live on surfaces more than a few seconds. I'm totally afraid of passing this on to someone else. My outbreak was extremely painful, I cried for about 15 minutes each time I urinated. I have ghsv1. I've read that the first outbreak is usually the worst. I sure hope so.
