I am on methotrexate injections once a week and folic acid I take daily. I have only had two injections, and have spent the past 5 days either on the toilet or hanging over it. Will this ever stop?

Hi Mindy. I was the same. I put up with it for ages thinking my body would just get used to it. In the end I have asked them to lower the dose, as I clearly was not tolerating it. I felt worse as I was not absorbing any nutrition and probably not benefitting from it or the rest of the meds either. I had been on MTX tablets and was alot worse. I have decided to get them to review this when I go to clinic in a months time. I am now on quite a low dose, which still helps with the skin problems and to an extent mouth ulcers, but my joints remain swollen, stiff and painful. If you are still having your injections in weekly clinic, I would ask them to lower the dose and gradually try to increase it to the therapeutic level as you can tolerate it. No point taking it , if you aren't benefitting from it. Good luck!

Yes it will stop - speak to your rheumatology nurse about spreading your dose over 2 days with a gap in the middle (don't take folic acid on mtx days) or gradually increasing your mtx dose from 1/4 to the full dose over 4 weeks.

You may also need a calcium channel blocker such as omeprazole to stop the nausea.

I had my first shot 0.03 on the 29th since then I've been aching more then before plus I've a Stomach ache told the nurse I'm taking anymore awaiting my Benlysta. Anything that makes you sicker is not worth taking feel betterĀ
